How to Get Cases in CS2

Cases in Counter-Strike 2 allow players to obtain unique skins and are also part of the in-game economy. Many players may be wondering: how to get a case for free in CS2, how the reward system works, and whether it’s even worth farming cases. In this article, we’ll break down all the methods in detail, explain the nuances, and offer practical advice.
The Case Acquisition System in CS2
The main change compared to CS:GO is that case drops are now tied to weekly rewards. To participate in the system, a player must have Prime status—it grants access to closed matchmaking and cases. It costs about 1,200 ₽, but the price may vary depending on exchange rates.
Each week, by leveling up their profile, players receive a set of four random rewards. These always include a case or terminal, graffiti, and two skins of their choice. You can choose two of these items. In other words, if you want to consistently receive cases, it’s important to level up at least once a week. The system resets every Wednesday, so missing a week means you’ll miss out on the rewards for that period.
How to Get Cases in CS2
The easiest way is to level up your CS2 profile. But you need to understand that your profile level is not a rank in competitive matches and is not the same as your Premier Rating. Experience is earned for matches in various modes. Approximate values:
- Competitive mode — 30 points for each round won.
- Team Matches — 15 points per round.
- Casual Match — all personal points are multiplied by 4.
- Arms Race—points are converted to experience at a ratio of 1.
- Deathmatch — the final score is divided by 5.
Experience is awarded only after the match ends. If you leave the server early or simply stand idle, the system will not count your progress. Furthermore, you may face player complaints and a temporary ban.
How to Farm Cases in CS2
Case farming remains a hot topic, since cases can be sold or used yourself. There are several approaches here:
- Playing on multiple accounts. Some players create additional profiles to earn more weekly rewards. But keep in mind: this takes time. Some people get lucky and turn a profit after just a couple of weeks, while others need several months.
- Playing regularly to level up. On average, to level up once a week, it’s enough to play 4–6 matches in Duo, or 3–5 matches in Competitive or Premier.
- Optimizing by game modes. The fastest way is through Competitive matches, since wins grant more experience. However, for a more comfortable farming experience, many players choose Casual, Team Deathmatch, Arms Race, and Deathmatch, where matches are shorter;
- Selling Cases. Once you receive a case, you can list it on third-party marketplaces or on Steam. Prices depend on the rarity and popularity of the specific case.
It’s important for players to define their goal: farming for profit or collecting cases for personal use. In the first case, keep in mind that you can’t withdraw money directly from Steam—third-party services charge a commission of 20 to 30 percent.
Buying Cases on the Steam Marketplace
If you don’t want to wait for the weekly drop, you can always buy cases on Steam. This is the official method—completely safe and built right into the game client. All current case collections are available on the platform, including older and rare ones.
To make a purchase, simply:
- Go to the “Community” → “Market” section.

- Select “Counter-Strike 2” in the filters.

- Select the case you want and complete the transaction.
However, keep in mind that opening any case requires a key, which is purchased separately and can cost several times more than the case itself.
Capsules and Souvenir Cases
In addition to standard cases, there are other containers in the game:
- Sticker capsules. These can be purchased in the store or obtained through in-game events. Opening one yields one of the stickers from the collection;
- Souvenir cases. These are available during Majors via the Pick’em Pass. Players receive special tokens that can be exchanged for souvenir cases containing unique skins; no key is required for these.
Important details about obtaining cases
- Drops only work if you have Prime status; you can earn experience on servers that support Prime status only. Example: If your friend doesn’t have Prime status but you do, you won’t receive experience at the end of the game.
- You cannot receive more than one set of rewards per week.
- The counter resets on Wednesdays.
- Cases obtained through drops can be sold immediately on trading platforms or stored in your inventory.
Is it worth farming cases?
For many players, cases aren’t just in-game items—they’re a source of income or a collector’s item. If a player’s goal is to open cases for skins, it’s sometimes easier to buy the desired case and key directly. If, however, you want to make money, you’ll have to spend time farming and factor in service fees.
