magixx on the role of IGL: “It’s very important to be able to lead people.”

Team Spirit captain Boris “magixx” Vorobyov explained the role of an IGL in an interview at BLAST Open Porto 2026 and also discussed his collaboration with Sergey “hally” Shavaev and Dmitry “S0tF1k” Forostyanko.

On the ideal IGL

First of all, it’s very important to be able to lead people, because it’s impossible to always win based solely on the right decisions and the information at hand. If you know how to suggest the right moves to your teammates, do it well, and are able to come up with an idea that may not even be a top-tier counter-strategy or incredibly clever, then people will follow you and execute it. Besides that, I generally know a lot about the game, the roles, and what people should be doing in most rounds. I have a lot of information in my head. If you’re a player and can’t remember what happened in the previous ten rounds on each map, I remember all ten rounds for several players.

On my own growth as a captain

It started around April, when we had a different coach. S0tF1k was with us, but I was able to take the initiative. As we can see now, it worked out. At the moment, both hally and S0tF1k are present at tournaments, but I’m still given plenty of freedom. I have the authority to make decisions and choose how we’ll play or how we’ll start a match.

Right now, Boris “magixx” Vorobyov’s team is making its debut at BLAST Open Porto 2026 in a match against DENDELE CS. A win will allow the Russian squad to advance to the semifinals of Group A’s upper bracket, while the losing team will drop to the lower bracket.
