Team Vitality captain Dan “apEX” Madeskler spoke with Stake about his plans for retirement, as well as his goal of surpassing Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen in the number of Majors won.
I’d say that in CS, everything is much more intense, and it’s harder to play for a long time. You can see it in the players: the tournament schedule isn’t set up in the best way. We have too many tournaments, not enough breaks, and almost no time to rest. So, I think it’ll be very hard for me to have a truly long career. I won’t be playing until I’m 40, because I need to enjoy life at least a little bit, too. <...> To be honest, I hope to see my contract through to the end. I’ll stay with Team Vitality until the end of 2028, but I don’t think I’ll play until I’m as old as Tom Brady. I want to end my career on a high note, rather than slide downhill and end up being unnecessary.
Yes, you’re always striving for something. I think it’s very important in life to set goals: winning is certainly nice, but it’s just as nice to set new goals and achieve them. Speaking of which, I think what would make me happy is having more Majors than dupreeh. I need two more majors—then I’ll have a total of 50 trophies across CS:GO and CS2. If I achieve that, I’ll be satisfied and can retire with peace of mind.
As for other players, I think everyone understands that the battle for first place will be between ZywOo and donk. donk is a phenomenal player—we’ve never seen anyone like him before. His individual skill is incredible, and he’s very tough to play against. And if I had to name someone else, it would be m0NESY. It seems to me that over the last few months, he’s been playing his best CS in a long time.
Earlier, Team Vitality won the ESL Pro League Season 24 championship: in the grand final, held in Katowice, the team defeated MOUZ 3–0. Mathieu “ZywOo” Erbo was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
