Cheshir on magixx as IGL: “Specifically for our project, Borya is the best.”

Team Spirit captain Boris “magixx” Vorobyov.

Team Spirit CEO Nikita “Cheshir” Chukalin answered questions on the club’s official Telegram channel regarding the current Counter-Strike 2 roster and explained why Boris “magixx” Vorobyov was chosen as captain.

On the Counter-Strike 2 roster

Our current roster was only formed at the beginning of last season and is still in the active development phase; there is significant room for improvement, and it’s not even close to being time for changes yet. Every roster has weaknesses; the question is whether it’s realistic to fix them through hard work or not

About S0tF1k

Dima was able to take on responsibilities during training and team preparation that had previously been neglected. His personality also fit the team very well, which definitely played a role in changing their mindset. I’m very glad we managed to convince him to change the direction of his career.

On former psychologist nokeepeesh

Sasha is an excellent specialist, but one of the characteristics of his role is a certain saturation of his approach. I think he gave everything he could to this roster, and at a certain point, we needed to go our separate ways

On zont1x

When it comes to his role-specific responsibilities, Miroslav handles them well and is a great asset to the team. His individual performance was indeed inconsistent after coming back from a six-month hiatus, but I’m confident he’ll be able to find a new level of consistency, and the haters will have a reason to switch their attention to someone else.

On the return of magixx and zont1x to the roster

The decisions to bring back Bori and Mirik were made separately from one another and for different reasons

In mid-2025, after several conversations with Lenia, it became clear to us that we needed to start looking for a replacement for the captain’s position. Lenia is an amazing player and a great leader on the field; together with him, we managed to achieve incredible results. However, his exhaustion from the schedule and the extent of his burnout simply forced us to consider replacing him. As we weighed our options, we decided to proceed in stages. The simplest option would have been to bring in a ready-made IGL from another team who spoke Russian. We reviewed all available options and even spoke with some of them, but none of them turned out to be a good fit. The next logical step was to select people without specific experience as a captain but with the necessary set of qualities, including from within our own team; for example, we discussed this with both Andrei and Miroslav. After analyzing all possible options—and there were quite a few in this category—we concluded that, specifically for our project, Borya was the best choice. His strong desire to take on this specific role also played a major part in this decision; strong motivation is crucial when you need to learn a huge number of new and unfamiliar things. He had long been looking for an opportunity to take on more responsibility, and based on my observations, I can say with certainty that this has been to his benefit.

Miroslav’s return was largely due to his unique playing qualities, which became particularly relevant when we decided that Borya would become our captain. He’s truly excellent at generating ideas on the server, and on top of that, his level-headedness and calm temperament have been a huge help in controlling the situation on the map in past seasons as well. The choice between him and Vanya was based primarily on the difference in their skill sets, not on the quality of their skills.

Earlier, former Team Spirit psychologist Alexander “nokeepeesh” Kuznetsov described the personality of the organization’s CEO, Nikita “Cheshir” Chukalin, in a podcast on the club’s official YouTube channel, and also explained how they work with esports players.
