FUT Esports marksman Álvaro “SunPayus” Garcia, in an interview at PGL Masters Bucharest 2026, reflected on his debut with his new team, compared the atmosphere in his current roster to that of G2 Esports, and discussed the team’s goals for the current and upcoming tournaments.
It’s hard to explain why I managed to make a successful debut with the new team—it just started to click. Right after joining the roster, I told the coach that I didn’t want to change anything about the guys’ gameplay; I just wanted to adapt and be myself. It’s a little strange because the guys see me as a star—they give me the Desert Eagle during economic rounds and save up to buy me an AWP. That kind of attitude is really nice; it boosts my confidence, and it’s a lot of fun playing with them. They always listen when it comes to analyzing key moments or small situations during a match, and they’re quick learners.
First and foremost, I had to work really hard on myself as a player over the past few months while I was on the bench. As for the team as a whole, the guys have been playing together for quite a while now; they have great chemistry and an incredibly strong foundation. I understood from the start that I just needed to get involved in communication and do my job as the sniper. There was no need to change or invent anything—just try to be myself and give it my all.
I don’t feel like there’s any significant difference in skill level between FUT and G2; the team just needs to gel. At my previous organization, I was benched, but despite that, we had good tactics and an excellent roster. Something just wasn’t clicking, and the situation was affecting my mindset. At FUT, on the other hand, everything is falling into place perfectly so far.
All the guys are very young, and I’m the oldest on the team—even older than coolio. They cheer like crazy every round, pumping me up with their energy—it’s a really great feeling. The team doesn’t have any specific expectations for the tournament; we just want to play. Maybe we’ll make it to the finals, or maybe not, but we’re already happy just to be in the playoffs. We’ll see how far we end up going. The most important thing right now is the Major, so for both this championship and the next one, we’ll be focusing on preparing for the season’s main event.
Yesterday, FUT Esports defeated Team Vitality in the group stage of the PGL Masters Bucharest 2026 with a score of 2–0 in a best-of-3 series, securing their spot in the tournament’s playoffs. Álvaro “SunPayus” García’s roster will begin its run in the event’s final stage the day after tomorrow, October 29.
