3DMAX captain Brian “Maka” Kanda spoke in an interview at BLAST Bounty Summer 2026 about Jeremy “Kursy” Gast’s transition to the role of rifler and assessed his progress.
On Kursy’s performance at BLAST Bounty Summer 2026
From a shooting standpoint, he’s just incredible—that’s how I’d put it. He’s capable of performing at a very high level while also communicating very actively with the team. So I’m really glad he’s with us.
On Kursy’s transition to the rifleman role
In the French scene, we’ve known for a long time that he’s a very talented player specifically as a rifleman. But since there aren’t that many snipers in France, he had to play with the AWP. And, in my opinion, that role didn’t suit him very well. I’m practically certain that turning him into a star rifleman is the best decision. But that takes time. Sometimes he still thinks like a sniper. He doesn’t always think like a rifleman. That’s normal, because it’s really very difficult to switch roles.
On Kursy’s Progress
I think he’s showing an incredible level of play in such a short time. He’s improving tremendously. So no, I’m not surprised. I think a lot of people will be surprised. But I’m pretty sure he’ll be able to perform at this level until the end of the year.
