The Best Dota 2 Carries in Patch 7.41f for Boosting Your MMR

The Best Dota 2 Carries in Patch 7.41f for Boosting Your MMR

Patch 7.41f didn’t bring drastic changes, but it did shift the meta among Dota 2 carries: some heroes received long-awaited buffs, others lost their previous win rates, and a few have become a real headache for opponents. That’s why we’ve compiled an up-to-date list of the best carries for ranked matches, along with a separate selection of heroes for beginners.

What is the carry position in Dota 2?

A carry is the first position. This is the hero on whom the team most often relies in the late game. They play on the top lane alongside a support hero, who provides them with every kind of assistance while the carry themselves farm most of the gold and experience from the lane.

The carry’s main goal is to farm key items and become the strongest hero by the end of the match. In the early game, they’re usually weak, so they avoid unnecessary fights and focus on farming. In the mid-game, when the first major items appear, the carry begins to participate in fights and apply pressure to opponents across the map. In the late game, the outcome of the match most often depends on him, as he deals the majority of the damage in team fights.

A carry isn’t always literally a “tank” or “someone who fights enemies face-to-face” — it could be a ranged hero like Drow Ranger, an illusionist like Phantom Lancer, or the extremely resilient Dragon Knight, who absorbs more damage. They all have one thing in common: the team plays around them, rather than them playing around the team.

In this table, we’ve ranked heroes based on current patch trends to help new players identify which heroes are not only easy to play but also meta picks. The higher the tier, the stronger the hero and the easier it is to perform well with them.

The Best Meta Carries in Dota 2 for Experienced Players

The Best Meta Carries in Dota 2 for Experienced Players

Luna

Luna is back at the top of the meta. Endless buffs from Lunar Orbit, Aghanim’s Shard, and her talents have turned her into one of the fastest-farming carries, who is also incredibly strong in team fights. With a Blink Dagger and Aghanim’s Shard after buying Manta Style, she bursts into team fights under Eclipse and wipes out everything in her path in seconds. Even if enemies activate Black King Bar, Lunar Orbit and stacked glyphs will still deal massive damage—the ability deals physical damage.

Quick Build:

  • Start: Tango, Healing Salve, two Iron Branches, Circlet.
  • Early Game: Power Treads, Magic Wand, Yasha.
  • Core Items: Manta Style, Blink Dagger, Aghanim’s Shard.
  • Situational: Black King Bar, Butterfly, Satanic.

Phantom Lancer

Phantom Lancer remains one of the most inconsistent, yet at the same time most terrifying, carries. If he lands in a favorable draft and gets space to farm, he’s nearly impossible to stop. With Manta Style, Aghanim’s Scepter, Eye of Skadi, and Aghanim’s Shard, he simply fills the screen with his illusions, and with Bloodthorn, he kills heroes in a couple of seconds.

Quick build:

  • Early Game: Tango, Quelling Blade, two Iron Branches, Faerie Fire.
  • Early Game: Power Treads, Magic Wand, Yasha.
  • Core Items: Manta Style, Diffusal Blade, Aghanim’s Scepter.
  • Situational: Heart of Tarrasque, Butterfly, Bloodthorn.

Lone Druid

Lone Druid’s bear isn’t just a pet—it’s a full-fledged new carry in Dota 2 with its own inventory. The Entangle change in 7.41f didn’t alter the core of the hero: Lone Druid still dominates the lane, destroys towers, and puts pressure on opponents across the entire map. You can’t afford to trade blows with him, and his bear can prevent the enemy support from gaining experience at the altar—that’s just too strong.

Quick Build:

  • Early Game: Orb of Blight and Iron Branch for the hero; Quelling Blade and Tango for the bear.
  • Early Game: Power Treads, Mjollnir.
  • Core Items: Aghanim’s Scepter, Aghanim’s Shard.
  • Situational: Black King Bar, Silver Edge, Butterfly.

Clinkz

Clinkz is all about mobility and burst damage. He wasn’t directly changed in 7.41f, but he benefited from the meta shift. His ability to move quickly across the map, apply pressure on lanes, and take down isolated targets makes him ideal for an aggressive playstyle. Skeleton Walk allows him to gank with impunity, while Searing Arrows lets him deal massive damage from a safe distance.

Quick Build:

  • Start: Tango, Slippers of Agility, Iron Branch.
  • Early Game: Power Treads, Falcon Blade.
  • Core Items: Orchid Malevolence, Dragon Lance.
  • Situational: Black King Bar, Daedalus, Bloodthorn.

Spectre

Spectre is a classic late-game carry who only gets stronger with every item. Her Haunt applies global pressure, and Dispersion makes her incredibly resilient. In Patch 7.41f, she remains a top pick thanks to her high win rate and ability to turn around long games.

Quick build:

  • Start: Tango, Quelling Blade, two Iron Branches.
  • Early Game: Power Treads, Magic Wand, Yasha.
  • Core Items: Radiance, Manta Style, Aghanim’s Scepter.
  • Situational: Heart of Tarrasque, Butterfly, Blade Mail.

Ursa

Ursa is a hero for those who love aggression and active fights. After the buffs in 7.41f, he has once again become one of the best “duelists,” capable of killing any hero in a one-on-one fight. His Fury Swipes stack damage, and Enrage makes him virtually unkillable in short skirmishes.

Quick Build:

  • Start: Quelling Blade, Tango, two Iron Branches.
  • Early Game: Phase Boots, Morbid Mask.
  • Core Items: Battle Fury, Blink Dagger, Skull Basher.
  • Situational: Abyssal Blade, Satanic, Black King Bar.

Kez

Kez is one of the most difficult—but also one of the most interesting—carry heroes in the game. He has two sets of weapons, and his effectiveness depends on his ability to switch between them. In skilled hands, he becomes a killing machine, especially with Desolator and Aghanim’s Scepter. The only downside is that he’s extremely difficult to play due to his stances, which you need to switch between skillfully depending on the situation during fights.

Quick Build:

  • Start: Tango, Slippers of Agility, Iron Branch.
  • Early Game: Power Treads, Mage Slayer.
  • Core Items: Desolator, Aghanim’s Scepter.
  • Situational: Black King Bar, Monkey King Bar, Satanic.

Nature's Prophet

Nature's Prophet isn't just a first-pick hero—he's a meta carry in Dota 2 who is rarely overlooked, regardless of the patch. He can farm in one part of the map and push in another a second later. His mobility and ability to apply pressure across all lanes make him a unique pick for those who like to control the pace of the game and gain an advantage as a result.

Quick Build:

  • Start: Tango, Iron Branch, Blades of Attack.
  • Early Game: Power Treads, Orchid Malevolence.
  • Core Items: Aghanim’s Scepter, Black King Bar.
  • Situational: Assault Cuirass, Sheepstick, Bloodthorn.

The Best Easy Carries in Dota 2 for Beginners

If you’re just starting out as a carry, don’t jump right into complex heroes like Lone Druid, Clonkz, Kez, and others. Start with heroes that are forgiving of mistakes, have simple mechanics, and don’t require perfect micro.

Wraith King

A timeless classic for beginners. He has only one active ability, built-in critical strike, and, most importantly, Reincarnation—the ability to respawn after death. Even if you make a mistake, you’ll get a second chance. Wraith King is perfect for learning the basics of farming and positioning.

Quick Build:

  • Start: Quelling Blade, Tango, two Iron Branches.
  • Early Game: Phase Boots, Magic Wand.
  • Core Items: Radiance, Blink Dagger, Black King Bar.
  • Situational: Assault Cuirass, Abyssal Blade.

Juggernaut

Overall, Juggernaut is a simple and effective carry. He has Blade Fury for invulnerability, Healing Ward for survival, and Omnislash for kills. He holds the lane well and can punish enemies for their mistakes. The only thing—and the most important—is to always try to use his ultimate wisely. To do this, it’s crucial to: first, make sure there are no creeps nearby; second, keep an eye on what enemies are buying.

Quick Build:

  • Start: Quelling Blade, Tango, two Iron Branches.
  • Early Game: Power Treads, Battle Fury.
  • Core items: Manta Style, Aghanim’s Scepter.
  • Situational: Black King Bar, Butterfly, Abyssal Blade.

Sven

Sven is one of the most straightforward carries in the game. His gameplay revolves around his ultimate, God’s Strength: you activate it, jump into the fray, and deal massive area-of-effect damage with Great Cleave. Sven has a reliable stun with Storm Hammer, which works both as an initiation tool and a save. He’s tanky, farms creeps quickly, and doesn’t require complex micro. The only things you need to master are Blink Dagger timing and using Black King Bar at the right moment.

Quick Build:

  • Early Game: Gauntlets of Strength, Quelling Blade, Tango, Faerie Fire.
  • Early Game: Power Treads, Mask of Madness.
  • Core Items: Echo Sabre, Blink Dagger, Black King Bar.
  • Situational: Daedalus, Satanic, Swift Blink, Monkey King Bar.

Lifestealer

Lifestealer has undergone several nerfs but remains one of the strongest carries in the patch. His main advantage is his Rage ability, which functions as a second Black King Bar, and his ability to survive in any fight. Many heroes with crowd control are ineffective against him, and his damage against tanky heroes is simply massive.

Quick Build:

  • Start: Quelling Blade, Tango, Healing Salve, two Iron Branches, Gauntlets of Strength.
  • Early Game: Power Treads, Armlet of Mordiggian.
  • Core Items: Desolator, Skull Basher, Black King Bar.
  • Situational: Abyssal Blade, Satanic, Monkey King Bar, Nullifier.

Drow Ranger

Drow Ranger is easy to understand: stay back and shoot. Her aura buffs the team, and Frost Arrows slow enemies. She doesn’t require complex combos, but she can often be punished for poor positioning. The perfect hero for those who just want to stand back and shoot from a distance.

Quick Build:

  • Start: Slippers of Agility, Tango, Iron Branch.
  • Early Game: Power Treads, Magic Wand, Yasha.
  • Core Items: Dragon Lance, Manta Style.
  • Situational: Black King Bar, Butterfly, Silver Edge.

Sniper

Sniper is the simplest long-range carry in the game. His gameplay boils down to one phrase: stay back and shoot. Thanks to his massive attack range and the Take Aim ability, he can deal damage without letting enemies get close to him. Shrapnel slows enemies and deals area-of-effect damage, helping with both farming and map control. He’s very fragile, so positioning is the only thing you need to master.

Build:

  • Early Game: Slippers of Agility, Tango, Iron Branch, Faerie Fire.
  • Early Game: Power Treads, Magic Wand, Dragon Lance.
  • Core Items: Manta Style, Black King Bar.
  • Situational: Butterfly, Monkey King Bar, Satanic.

Medusa

Medusa’s gameplay is usually based more on patience than on frequent fights. She is very weak in the lane, but if she manages to survive and farm her items, she becomes practically unkillable. Her Mana Shield absorbs damage, and Split Shot allows her to farm multiple targets at once.

Quick Build:

  • Start: Tango, Quelling Blade, two Iron Branches.
  • Early Game: Power Treads, Magic Wand.
  • Core Items: Manta Style, Skadi.
  • Situational: Butterfly, Black King Bar, Divine Rapier.

Dragon Knight

Dragon Knight is a tank who is well-suited for learning to play the carry role (since he has that potential). His passive, Dragon Blood, provides regeneration and armor, making him very difficult to push off the lane. After level 6, he transforms into a dragon, gaining a ranged attack, splash damage, and increased damage against structures, which allows him to push lanes and farm quickly. He doesn’t require active items to survive and is forgiving of mistakes if you’ve chosen a poor position.

Build:

  • Start: Quelling Blade, Gauntlets of Strength, Tango, Iron Branch.
  • Early Game: Power Treads, Soul Ring (optional).
  • Core Items: Blink Dagger, Black King Bar.
  • Situational: Assault Cuirass, Heart of Tarrasque, Silver Edge.

Chaos Knight

Carry heroes in Dota 2, such as Chaos Knight, are all about simple and straightforward aggression. He has Chaos Bolt, which deals damage and stuns for a random duration, and Reality Rift, which pulls an enemy toward you. His ultimate, Phantasm, creates illusions that deal full damage, so in the late game he can literally wipe out almost any hero in just a couple of seconds. He’s tanky, deals a lot of damage, and doesn’t require complex skills—the main thing is to learn how to use Blink Dagger for surprise initiations.

Quick Build:

  • Early Game: Gauntlets of Strength, Quelling Blade, Tango, Faerie Fire.
  • Early Game: Power Treads, Armlet of Mordiggian.
  • Core Items: Echo Sabre, Blink Dagger, Black King Bar.
  • Situational: Heart of Tarrasque, Satanic, Assault Cuirass.
