Journalist and esports broadcaster Richard Lewis commented on Cedric “Davai” Dekmin’s public apology to Chinese fans for the previous version of his nickname.

Earlier, Davai apologized for the previous version of his nickname—Davai Lama—which sounds similar to the title of the Tibetan spiritual leader, a term viewed negatively by the Chinese government. “This nickname started as a play on words when I was 15. At the time, I didn’t fully understand the historical and political context associated with it, nor the misunderstandings and offense it might cause,” Dekmin explained.
