During a live stream on Twitch, streamer Yaroslav “NS” Kuznetsov discussed the problems with Dota 2. He believes that too much attention in the game is focused on farming creeps.
The problem with Dota is that at a high level of play, you literally have to farm creeps. And trying to run off somewhere will get you crushed. That’s it. It’s just the way the game is—that’s how they designed it. <…>
This is what Dota looks like right now. We start with the heroes, then builds are devised for them. And the whole point of all this is to make sure you can farm the maximum number of jungle camps in the minimum amount of time—and start doing it as early as possible. That’s the idea behind Dota. And it’s just awful. And the main thing is, you can’t blame anyone for doing something wrong. I recently played Leshrac in a hard match: we won the lane 0-0, and with a 5/0 K/D, I bought Blink and thought, “***[Why] did I buy this? I should’ve picked Kaya and farmed the jungle.”
Earlier, NS stated that Dota 2 players have a formulaic way of thinking. In his opinion, they mindlessly copy professional players’ builds without trying to figure out whether such item choices are justified.
