Team Spirit analyst Mark “sikle” Lerman stated on his personal Telegram channel that Valve did not completely change the formula for bonus experience for killing a hero on a kill streak in Patch 7.32, which was released in August 2022.

I stumbled upon another bug completely by accident while reviewing old patch formulas. This one isn’t as noticeable as the Big Game Hunter example, but it’s still annoying.
It concerns a change to the formula for bonus experience for killing a target with a streak in 7.32 (2022):
| where | the formula |
| Before 7.32 | (x^2 - x + 8)*DeadHeroLVL |
| 7.32 through today | (1.25x^2 - 2.5x + 10)*DeadHeroLVL |
When they changed the formula, they forgot to update the old constant from +8 to +10, so the actual formula is: (1.25x^2 - 2.5x + 8)*DeadHeroLVL.
It’s a pittance, but since then, a billion matches have been played, which means that in every game, someone is constantly missing out on experience. In some situations, the values might look as if an extra creep was missed. That adds up to a huge pile of pennies! Liquipedia also simply copied what was written in the patch without verifying it.
The most recent example: 12 PARI Universe matches. If you only count experience from hero kills, the team’s total experience shortfall ranges from 0% to 1.43% (this is AI — PVISION, 31 min.), and the maximum numerical amount of “lost” XP per game is only 350 (Liquid vs. 1win).
I haven’t reported anything in a long time, and I don’t want to do that now either. By the way, I didn’t want to write this, since I vowed not to talk about bugs, but because of the Big Game Hunter fix, they broke another ability that gives money “out of thin air”—you can guess for yourself which one. The game logs certain values, but in reality, the bonus doesn’t work (and it’s a VERY large bonus).
Earlier, a minor update was released for Dota 2, which included changes to the server and client on Windows, macOS, and Linux, as well as updates to the Workshop Tools and digital signature files.
