Aeon on the loss to Aurora Gaming: “It turns out our game plan wasn’t very good.”

Team Liquid PH head coach Ong Wei “Aeon” Shen, in an interview with the organizers of the MLBB Mid Season Cup 2026, discussed Aurora Gaming’s victory over Team Liquid in the quarterfinals of the group stage and reflected on the reasons behind the outcome.
On the loss to Aurora Gaming
Our game plan didn’t work out as well as we’d hoped. We weren’t able to stop Aurora Gaming once they gained momentum, even though we thought we’d be able to weather their peak. Our opponent managed to gain an advantage and maintain it, dictating the pace, which ultimately prevented us from defeating them. It turns out our game plan was flawed.
Actually, our communication was fine—we understood what we needed to do against Aurora Gaming. However, at a certain point, we got too confident and started getting into fights we couldn’t handle. So yes, we have to admit that our plans weren’t the best. We’ll see what we can fix in our team’s tactics.
On Aurora Gaming’s picks
Aurora’s drafts surprised us, though not by much. We didn’t expect our opponent to reveal their strategy to us so quickly—something they usually don’t do. However, I suspected our opponents might pick something unusual, and I was also expecting Angel, who is played in Aurora Gaming’s region. So yes, we knew our opponent liked unconventional drafts, and to be honest, that caused us some pretty significant trouble. Our opponent executed their unorthodox style and habit of picking unusual heroes well, which is why they won the match.
On Further Preparation
Of course, we’ll revisit our plans and strategies for preparing to face opponents. Each of us has a strategy or plan until we get hit in the face. And we missed that blow. So, perhaps we’ll take a few steps back. Of course, every match requires individual preparation.
Team Liquid PH lost their match against Aurora Gaming in the quarterfinals of the MSC 2026 upper bracket group stage with a score of 0–2. As a result of the loss, Aeon’s team dropped to the lower bracket, where they will play a decisive match against Entity7 on July 25.
