Omnix roamer Amir “Yoza” Khafizov spoke in an interview at the MLBB Continental Championships Season 8 about the team’s disappointing performance this season, explained his approach to unconventional picks, and shared his thoughts on the roster’s future.
We haven’t drawn any conclusions yet, but there will be plenty. Our goal was to make the top 4. We set that bar for ourselves so we’d be invited to the next MCC. Obviously, the goal was to make the playoffs, but there was also a mess going on within the team: reshuffles here, no reshuffles there. Everyone played absolutely terribly, including in this game and throughout the entire season. It’s just sad.
In practice matches, we test different heroes to see how they perform. We didn’t get to play Forest Helkart; we wanted to show him off too. As for the hero pool—we have Coach Philip, and he has his own system, a “machine” that drafts, roughly speaking: it sees what’s better and what isn’t. Everyone on the team has a hero pool, but it’s not clear yet what works best for us. That’s why we’re testing everything in practice matches and here.
[Question: What kind of system helps with drafting?] Something like statistics, yeah. He has a huge database of stats that shows which hero is a good fit, what works, and what doesn’t. That’s what hero selection is all about.
Everyone’s feeling down right now, including me. But I’m naturally a cheerful person, so I’m a little emotional right now. As for the future, I don’t know what to say yet. We advanced in another LAN tournament. I don’t know if the roster will stay together. It’s sad, of course.
Omnix finished in eighth place at the MLBB Continental Championships Season 8. In the regular season, the team earned 9 points with three wins and eleven losses. For making the top 8, Yoza’s team earned $1,250.
