Rune Eaters’ explainer David “Dzhuki” Vandakurov shared his thoughts on the season and discussed the team’s challenges in a post-match interview during the MLBB Continental Championships Season 8.
At first, I personally was confident we’d make it, but then several unfortunate factors came into play that were, well, let’s say, working against us. [This is probably related to the player rotations. As I understand it, you’d have one player one time, then another the next. Did you have to adjust your strategy?]
Probably the key moment was when Ulan left for the Asian Games, which forced us to look for a mid laner. We found a mid laner, but to be honest, I don’t think our playstyles meshed. There was a serious lack of understanding. On the plus side, I can’t mention certain factors, but there are nuances that affected our gameplay. This continued right up until the patch. Since the previous patch was super favorable for us, the new patch, unfortunately, changed things, so we had to adjust, and not everyone was comfortable with this patch. So, I think it was just a combination of factors. And because of that, toward the end of the regular season, we couldn’t play our game at all.
Yes, at first and practically right up until the very end, we well, we practiced regularly—two or three drills here, game reviews there, and so on—but toward the end of the season, unfortunately, because boot camp ended a little early, and some people had work, —I personally had to go back for work, while others had school or other commitments. As a result, we ended up leaving boot camp early, and consequently, our training schedule was reduced—meaning we started devoting less time to the game and more, so to speak, to our own affairs, which couldn’t be put off at all.
Well, pure delight. Also tilt, despair, laughter, and joy. All in all, mixed feelings depending on the result. Unfortunately, the result wasn’t great. So I really enjoyed it and hope to come back here, but this time with a better mindset, so to speak, and we’ll aim for a higher place than we have now.
Unfortunately, I can’t say for sure, because, well, after the MCC, there’s always the possibility of the team breaking up. Maybe everyone will stay and we’ll keep training; maybe there will be changes, and so on. I can’t say anything for sure right now. So for now, the plan is to take a break. I mean, after such a long, grueling experience—our first one—we need to get our affairs in order, recover mentally and physically, and, most likely, get back in the game. I just can’t say for sure yet whether it’ll be with the same roster or not. I mean, again, I don’t know myself.
Rune Eaters lost to RAKUZAN on the final day of the regular season of the MLBB Continental Championships Season 8, which cost them a spot in the tournament’s playoffs.
