Aurora Gaming rifler Yimi “Jimpphat” Salo appeared on Duncan “Thorin” Shields’ podcast to talk about his first LAN tournament and explain how his older brother’s success influenced his desire to improve at Counter-Strike.
I remember playing my first LAN tournament—IEM Cologne. All the legends were there, and I remember my brother playing at that event. So I got to see all my idols. You can imagine how nervous I was at my first tournament. I can’t say I played terribly back then, but I definitely didn’t play very well.
It’s incredibly motivating to see someone doing better than you. When it comes to your older brother, it’s not so much that you want to outdo him, but rather that you strive to be just like him. You feel a little envious, because he gets all the fame and a lot of money. That’s when I first thought that I wanted to follow in his footsteps and be like him.
Earlier, Yimi “Jimpphat” Salo spoke about joining Aurora Gaming. The esports player said he feels confident in the new roster but continues to work on his individual gameplay.
