malbsMd: “Playing with coldzera was an incredible experience.”

Team Liquid rifler Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa spoke on the Talking Counter podcast about how he got into Counter-Strike, reminisced about his time playing for 00 Nation, and shared his impressions of playing with Marcelo “coldzera” David.
On getting into Counter-Strike
It’s a bit of a long story. My dad owned an internet café with one of his cousins. And his cousin was a programmer, so he knew how to crack games, programs, and all that stuff. Basically, he helped his cousin crack the game, and then they installed it in the internet café so there would be a license on all the computers. And then he got one copy for our home computer. And sometimes my dad would play a little himself. I really liked soccer back then. I usually just kicked the ball around in the backyard and stuff like that. And one day he called me over: “Hey, want to play a little?” I liked it, but then I stopped playing because I had an old computer. And I also had school. I was little, so I couldn’t play. But then they bought me my own computer for school, and I was like, “What was that game we used to play a long time ago?” And he said, “Oh, that was Counter-Strike.” So I downloaded Counter-Strike 1.6, without Steam, because… well, yeah, Steam didn’t exist back then.
About 00 Nation
To be honest, it was supposed to be a really good team. I don’t know. It’s a shame we couldn’t get everything to click, but I think it could have been a really strong team. <...> In my opinion, it was a solid lineup, but I think coldzera didn’t really like to play support, and we were all still rookies back then. And then they didn’t like one of the players.
On playing with coldzera
Playing with coldzera was an incredible experience. He played in Europe, was named the world’s best player twice, so he had a ton of experience, and it was helpful to learn from him. At one point, I argued with him because I didn’t agree with some things, but now, after having played in Europe myself… I even said this in an interview: now that I’ve had the chance to play in Europe, I understand exactly what he meant.
Earlier, malbsMd faced criticism from Reddit users following an incident involving a smoke grenade glitch in a match against The MongolZ at the CS Asia Championships 2026. Due to a glitch with the smoke display, malbsMd was able to spot an opponent behind a still-active smoke grenade, after which he secured a kill with a headshot.
