
The organizers of the Esports World Cup have announced that Counter-Strike 2 tournaments will be held in 2027 and 2028. In 2027, the championship will take place from July 20 to August 1 in Riyadh, with a prize pool of $2,000,000. The announcement was published on the official Esports World Cup website.
Thirty-two teams will participate in the 2027 tournament. Twenty teams will receive invitations based on the global VRS ranking, with two additional slots going to teams from North America, South America, and Asia. Two spots will be allocated via the wildcard system, and four more teams will qualify for the championship through open qualifiers in Riyadh.
The group stage will consist of four groups of eight teams each, using a double-elimination format. The top four teams from each group will advance to the playoffs. All stages of the tournament, including the open qualifiers, will be held in a LAN format.
In 2028, Counter-Strike 2 will also be added to the Esports World Cup lineup. The preliminary dates for the tournament are July 14–30.
The 2026 CS2 Esports World Cup took place from August 12 to 23 in Paris, France. A total of 32 teams participated in the event, competing for a $2,000,000 prize pool. Team Spirit was crowned the tournament champion, defeating FUT Esports 3–1 in the final.
