The hard lane is where you need to survive, dictate terms to the enemy carry, disrupt their plans, and try to create space for the entire team depending on the pick. And you can only pull this off with the best hero pairings for the hard lane in Dota 2.

A combo that starts dealing damage at level six but stops working as well and effectively as soon as enemies buy Black King Bar and Linken’s Sphere. And believe me, they’ll definitely pick up all of that specifically to counter your Dota 2 hero combo in the late game if you get too aggressive and start chasing them all over the map!
Legion Commander engages the enemy in a Duel, and Skywrath Mage casts Mystic Flare on him. Just two button presses guarantee a kill and the easiest damage from a duel. The best part: you can repeat this combo every 50–60 seconds, and with every successful duel, Legion Commander gets stronger.
The key thing after laning, when you start roaming the map, is not to forget to buy Smoke of Deceit. On the lane itself, things are even simpler for this duo: Skywrath Mage constantly drains the enemies’ resources with Arcane Bolt and other abilities, while Legion Commander prevents the enemy carry from farming creeps properly, because if he steps into a group of creeps, he’ll take a lot of damage from Overwhelming Odds and face a high risk of being sent back to the fountain.

Huskar is one of the most aggressive heroes on the mid lane, but he has a weakness: until he buys the Armlet of Mordiggian and the Black King Bar, he is extremely vulnerable, easy to kite, and lacks crowd control. Oracle, on the other hand, solves literally all of these problems and significantly strengthens Huskar himself in the process.
With his False Promise ultimate, he becomes practically unkillable and can fight to the end, knowing that all damage will be deflected or, at the very least, his enemies will be sent back to the fountain along with him. Additionally, Oracle also has Fortune’s End, which allows him to remove a whole host of negative effects, stuns, and slows. With this combo, Huskar can pressure enemies under the tower, conserve resources, and easily take down a Tier 1 tower. However, such lane combinations in Dota are complex. It’s not just about how the heroes perform later in the game, but also about the skill required to play them. Therefore, this build is not recommended for beginners.

Phoenix and Axe are a duo that dominates the lane thanks to their sustained damage and slow effects. Phoenix uses Fire Spirits to slow enemies’ attacks while also draining their resources, and Axe constantly uses Battle Hunger on the enemy carry, preventing him from properly finishing off creeps to remove his burn effect.
After level six, the combo becomes even simpler: Axe uses Berserker’s Call to gather enemies in one spot while Phoenix takes them out with Supernova. If executed properly, the enemies won’t be able to escape and destroy the egg, since they simply won’t have enough time to do so, and finishing them off after the Supernova explosion won’t be much of a problem. Most importantly, both heroes can comfortably play against Black King Bar.

Looking for the most annoying Dota 2 combo in the game? Then we recommend checking out the Undying and Venomancer duo. Be sure to buy a Blood Grenade for yourself, level up Tombstone, and have Venomancer take Venomous Gale first. From there, the strategy is as simple as it gets: as soon as enemies get too close, throw a Blood Grenade, cast Venomous Gale, and use Tombstone. It’ll be nearly impossible for an enemy carry without a reliable save or escape ability to survive. You can use the same strategy to fight for the gold runes at the start and secure the first kill. It’s a very simple combo that can completely push the carry off the lane, and after a couple of levels, Venomancer gains Plague Ward, which lets you quickly take down the first tower and farm nearby camps.

What other interesting two-hero combos are there for the Hard difficulty? Treant Protector and Phoenix are a pair for those who want something more impactful. The only downside is that, depending on the enemy draft, their damage output might be insufficient, but this duo’s crowd control lasts so long that allies will have time to come to the rescue.
Treant Protector not only protects Phoenix with Living Armor, which provides armor and healing, but also uses Nature’s Grasp, making it quite difficult to escape this duo. Phoenix, in turn, deals massive damage with Fire Spirits and Supernova. And in team fights, they have two area-of-effect ultimates that bypass the Black King Bar and provide extremely long-lasting crowd control.

Spirit Breaker and Dark Seer are a combo for those who love applying pressure across the entire map. Dark Seer casts Ion Shell on Spirit Breaker, who then charges forward using Charge of Darkness and slams into enemies, dealing sustained damage. Surge gives Spirit Breaker extra speed and mobility. In team fights, Dark Seer uses Vacuum and Wall of Replica while Spirit Breaker focuses on a single key target and keeps them under control with Nether Strike. The only downside is that having two melee heroes in the starting lane isn’t ideal, and Spirit Breaker will still need to periodically move to other lanes anyway—but with Dark Seer, he becomes several times stronger and can even pressure enemies under their towers.

Looking for the best hero combos for the hard mode in Dota 2? Then we recommend checking out the classic duo of Doom and Grimstroke—a combo that takes out two of the opponent’s key heroes at once. Grimstroke casts Soulbind, linking two enemies, and Doom casts his ultimate on one of the linked targets. As a result, the second enemy also gets hit by Doom. It’s easy to harass on the enemy lane, apply pressure under the tower, and there’s plenty of crowd control—and most importantly, this duo remains effective throughout the entire match.

Timbersaw and Nature’s Prophet are far from the easiest duo to play, but they’re extremely effective in the lane when handled by skilled players. Timbersaw deals massive damage with Whirling Death and Chakram, while Nature’s Prophet applies pressure with Teleportation, Sprout, and Nature’s Call. When they’re together on the lane and combine Sprout with Whirling Death, enemies take a massive amount of pure damage, causing them to quickly fall behind in resources right from the start. Not to mention that both heroes are highly mobile on their own: they can easily catch up to, trap, and kill enemies. Furthermore, Timbersaw can quickly close the distance to team fights using Timber Chain if Nature’s Prophet traps an enemy with Sprout.

Tiny and Magnus are a combo for those who love a powerful setup and AoE damage. Magnus uses Reverse Polarity to gather all enemies in one spot, while Tiny finishes them off with Avalanche and Toss, dealing massive area-of-effect damage. On the lane, Magnus applies pressure with Shockwave, while Tiny harasses with Avalanche. However, the most important thing is that Magnus can pull an enemy away, and Tiny will fling that same enemy carry even farther away from his ally.
Consequently, there’s no way to help him. After level six, this combo becomes one of the most dangerous in the game: RP + Avalanche + Toss can kill almost any hero. In addition, Tiny can also use Tree Grab to take down towers. There’s just one problem—it’s difficult for an average player to pull off these combos. That’s why you need a lot of experience and a clear understanding of the timing.

Huskar and Ancient Apparition are another extremely annoying duo. The whole idea behind this pairing is that they have an abundance of negative effects. Huskar dominates the lane thanks to Berserker’s Blood and Inner Fire, while Ancient Apparition adds Ice Vortex to slow enemies and reduce their magic resistance, as well as constantly casting Chilling Touch. Right from the start, the enemy carry takes a massive amount of damage, causing them to instantly fall behind in resources and forcing them to stay under their tower. Moreover, by level four, the duo is already ready to pressure opponents under their tower, forcing them to frequently retreat from the lane in a hurry. And since this happens quite early in the game, you can’t count on help from other lanes.
