Former Team Liquid offlaner Markus Folke “Ace” Helgard Christensen discussed the five offlane heroes that, in his opinion, perform best in Patch 7.41f in a new video on his YouTube channel.
Let’s start with the simplest hero—Legion Commander. If you just want to press buttons, win fights, and climb the ranks—this is the hero for you. LC currently has a 51% win rate in the offlane and over 3,500 games played. She wins her lane slightly more often than she loses it.
The whole point of this hero is to find an opponent who’s standing alone, duel them, and gain a damage bonus for the rest of the match. So the build is very simple—on the lane, you should get a Blink Dagger and a Blade Mail. After that, you’ll need a Black King Bar, because if you get stun during a duel, you’ll just be standing right next to your opponent.
After that, many players buy Aghanim’s Scepter, Aghanim’s Shard, Shadow Blade, or Assault Cuirass. LC is also effective against currently popular carries—Phantom Lancer and Lifestealer. They both hate being pinned down in one spot without being able to move.
Night Stalker is a Tier-S hero on Dota2ProTracker. People see this and think he’s the most broken hero in Dota right now, but that’s not the case. His win rate is about 51%. He’s in Tier S because he’s played over 5,000 games and still maintains that win rate. He’s consistent, not broken.
He’s consistent because he dominates his lane. Among all the heroes on my list, he has the biggest lane advantage. His Void slows enemies and stuns them at night, Crippling Fear prevents everyone around him from using abilities, Midnight Feast heals him with every hit, and at night he moves and attacks faster.
He’s also a hero who doesn’t need a lot of farm. You get Boots, a Soul Ring, and a Drum of Endurance, followed by a Blink Dagger. Then a Black King Bar or Aghanim’s Shard, and finally a Nullifier. Some players buy an Echo Saber instead of the Drum of Endurance and finish off the build with a Harpoon.
If you’ve watched my full guide on Dark Seer, you know what I think about this hero. He’s played over 6,500 games, most of them in the offlane. And he still has a 51% win rate.
But I have to be honest: on the pro scene in Patch 7.41f, Dark Seer was completely shut down—he won only 6 out of 23 games. Pro players figured out how to punish him in the lane. He’s weak in the early levels, so players were aggressive against him until Ion Shell got stronger.
And that’s why he still works in pubs. DS is a hero who loves to farm. You cast a shield on creeps, push them into the enemy jungle, clear camps, while the lane pushes itself. You build up your core stats on the lane, then pick up Shiva’s Guard, Blink Dagger, and Aghanim’s Shard. The longer the game goes on, the stronger you become.
Dawnbreaker has a 51% win rate in the off-lane, but players who spam her in matches have a win rate of nearly 58%. This 7% gap is solely due to hero knowledge. No other hero in my top list has such a gap. This makes sense, because her strength lies not in her stats, but in the decisions she makes.
Her ultimate ability teleports her to any point on the map and heals allies. In public matches, your teammates constantly find themselves in trouble, and Dawnbreaker, who keeps an eye on the map, helps them win.
The build starts with Echo Sabre, followed by Harpoon. Next comes Aghanim’s Shard, which is very important for her. Then—Black King Bar.
In 7.41, Enigma was nerfed three times. His Eidolons lost attack range, and Black Hole with Aghanim’s Scepter now pulls enemies in more slowly. But he’s still the best offlaner in pubs—the hero wins nearly 57% of games, and players who spam him win over 62% of games.
What makes Enigma strong? He plays differently during the laning phase, controlling the map with his Eidolons—they play for you, push the lane for you, and take down structures faster than any other hero on this list.
The build is simple: Drum of Endurance first, followed by the two items most players buy—Blink Dagger and Aghanim’s Shard. After that, get a Black King Bar so no one can catch you during Black Hole.
Doom is the number one offlaner on the pro scene in 7.41f. He won 15 out of 26 games. In pub matches, his win rate stands at 50%. This discourages many players, who think this hero is only for pros. But he rarely loses only in the early stages—in the mid-game, his win rate is 55%, and in games longer than 50 minutes, it’s 56%.
Doom isn’t a bad hero; Doom is a hero who’s played too early in the game. The most popular build involves Aghanim’s Shard, Phase Boots, Soul Ring, and Drum of Endurance.
Earlier, Folke “Ace” Helgard Christensen analyzed the Dota 2 7.41f patch—in his video, the professional player discussed the nerf to Treant Protector, the buff to Ursa, and the main idea behind the patch.
