Team Yandex offlaner Ammar “ATF” al-Assaf, in an interview following their victory at BLAST SLAM VIII, compared his current team’s successes to those of Team Falcons, discussed his role on the team, and shared his thoughts on his former teammates.
It’s funny that I just won two tournaments we couldn’t win with the Falcons—PGL and BLAST. We struggled so much, finishing in second and third place so many times. And now, in less than a month, I’ve won both. Only the Riyadh Masters remains.
[Question: Do you believe Team Yandex will be able to overcome any challenges that arise?]
I’ve only been with them for a month, and we’ve already won two tournaments. My job is to outplay the opponent in the offlane: they’ve had problems with that twice before, with their previous offlaners. That’s my job. If I do it right, I think winning a lot of tournaments should be pretty easy.
It’s fun to go head-to-head with either of them. I take it personally. When I see Sneyking, he just has to die. I don’t know why, but I’m literally ready to die at the fountain just to kill him.
[Question: You and Malr1ne were very close on the Falcons. Are you looking forward to facing him?]
Yeah, definitely, because I think he’s a cheater. He took a month-and-a-half off because he’s getting married. It’ll ruin his career—perfect for me. I’ll show him I was right.
Team Yandex defeated Team Spirit 3–1 in the BLAST SLAM VIII final. After the victory, Ammar paid tribute to the “dragons,” noting that Ilya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk’s team put on a good performance.
