Fly on the 2026 Esports World Cup: “Just making it through the group stage is already a big win for us”

Virtus.pro captain Tal “Fly” Aizik, in an interview at the Esports World Cup 2026 Dota 2 tournament, commented on the victory over OG in the group stage,
On the victory over OG
It was a crazy series. We knew today was a make-or-break day—it was do or die for us. Obviously, we didn’t play with complete confidence; there was some inconsistency, but I’m very glad we were able to prove ourselves. I think OG also showed what they’re capable of, especially in the second game—they made it very difficult for us. So, I think it was a good match.
On expectations for the Esports World Cup 2026
To be honest, we came here and decided: no expectations. Unfortunately, we lost the qualifier for The International 2026, and that was definitely a tough moment for us. We were down for a couple of days, and then we all sat down together to discuss what had happened. In the end, we wanted to come here and put on our best performance, whatever the result might be. We know we won’t be able to easily beat Tier 1 teams, but if we play without pressure, we’ll definitely be able to take maps from our opponents. And I think you can see that sometimes. Fortunately, today was exactly that kind of situation.
On the changes at Virtus.pro compared to the start of the season
At the start of the season, we had different players. We made a small roster change midway through. We grew as a team; I believe we got better, but we never quite reached what we were aiming for—it was like a roller coaster. An esports team is complicated; there are so many ups and downs in this process and so many different dynamics. It’s been an up-and-down but fun year, and I really hope we have a good run in this tournament—just making it through the group stage would already be a huge victory for us.
Earlier, Virtus.pro defeated OG in the group stage of the 2026 Esports World Cup in Dota 2, but lost to LGD Gaming on Shadow Fiend in the third-place playoff, which resulted in the “Bears” finishing in fourth place in Group D.
