Team Spirit manager Dmitry “Korb3n” Belov, during a podcast on the organization’s YouTube channel, answered a question about why the CIS region currently dominates the pro scene and also commented on the issue of matchmaking in Dota 2.
It’s very simple. First of all: Dota is clearly the most popular in the CIS compared to other regions. It’s not nearly as popular anywhere else. That means there’s a steady influx of new players. When you have a steady influx of new players from a single region, obviously, that region reaps all the benefits.
To be fair, if Peru had learned to navigate the system the way the CIS did, I think the South American region would also be on top. They have good players, but no DPC, no money. How are Tier 2 teams supposed to develop there?
Regarding matchmaking and developer support: developer support would mean that they at least set up separate matchmaking pools by region. That way, there would be different MMR thresholds, and people could actually play instead of sitting around for 6 hours waiting for a single match. Poor 23savage—I feel sorry for him every time.
Earlier, Dmitry “Korb3n” Belov and Team Spirit carry Ilya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk spoke out about the Dota 2 Tier 2 scene and the monotony of tournaments.
