Team Liquid’s Technical Director Ben “Noxville” Stenheisen shared data on Dota 2’s monthly active audience on X, obtained via Valve’s API.
I’ve been tracking Dota 2’s monthly active users since 2023, and based on the MAU data I’ve collected directly from Valve’s API, last month’s figure was the highest on record—8.88 million.
I’m not sure exactly what criteria are used to define an active user: is it enough to simply log into the game, or do you need to play a certain number of matches? That said, I’m missing data for three months.
According to Stenhøisen, for most of the time, Dota 2’s monthly audience has hovered between approximately 7.4 and 8.6 million players. The most significant decline occurred in January 2024, when the figure dropped to approximately 6.85 million.
Earlier, Noxville suggested reworking neutral items in Dota 2. “The spell rework was a step in the right direction, but the range of available options still seems too wide,” Ben noted.
