SirActionSlacks commented on the change to the token system in Dota 2’s ranked mode

Esports host Jake “SirActionSlacks” Kanner discussed the match between the Greek and Serbian national teams at the Esports Nations Cup 2026 and the changes to the token system in Dota 2’s ranked mode on his personal YouTube channel.
About the Esports Nations Cup 2026
Most of the games were just boring blowouts, but the match between Serbia and Greece was a whole different story. Now that was really cool! Remember Ad Finem at The Boston Major 2016? Well, they’re back—and how! A bloody meat grinder, an epic series. If you want to watch a match—don’t hesitate, go with this one.
On the Token System Change
Support players who’ve never mastered other roles can now comfortably hide behind their terrible coordination, using command-calling as a cover, and then die in epic fashion. Folks, we’re back.
Now you can pick one in-demand role and not waste tokens on role-based matchmaking. The experiment that forced supports to play on a difficult lane is finally over. We’re back, friends. Welcome home.
I realize most of you don’t care, but as someone with 20,000 hours in this game—spent exclusively in the fourth and fifth positions—I can say: this is the biggest news for every hapless loser in my public groups who’s ever seen my Axe with Arcane Boots in the offlane.
Earlier, Valve released an update for Dota 2 that changed the token system in Dota 2’s ranked mode: now, you only need to select one of the two in-demand roles to avoid spending any tokens at all.
