OG midlaner Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen explained in an interview at BLAST SLAM VIII what motivated him to resume his playing career and why he chose this particular club.
I was lured into playing for LGD at TI. I had planned to move on with my life, but then I was enticed to compete at The International, after which I wanted to keep going, and here I am.
The bootcamp preparation didn’t last very long—due to visa issues—but we trained online.
[Question: “Did you miss your daily training routine?”]
Partly. In a way, my life feels fuller now, and my emotional range has expanded. The feelings are more intense than when I’m streaming from home.
It’s a safe and comfortable environment for me. The same people are still here. I started my career at OG; maybe I’ll end it here, too.
It’s nice to have someone like him around—you can rely on him whenever a problem arises. As for motivation and team spirit, when he’s around, everyone gives it their all.
The two-time The International champion with OG left the team after reaching the top 8 at TI 2021 and subsequently joined Tundra Esports. With his new team, he took third place at the year’s premier tournament, after which he retired.
LGD Gaming invited Topson to play in place of Santiago Gustavo “TaiLung” Olivosa Agüero, who was suspended from the championship. The team fell just one map short of reaching the playoffs, losing to Team Yandex in the decisive series. At the end of the tournament, the roster’s contracts with the club expired.
