Aeon: “I first played Mobile Legends: Bang Bang while I was serving in the military. That was in 2017.”

Team Liquid PH coach Ong Wei “Aeon” Sheng recalled in the latest episode of the 8G podcast how he discovered Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and became an esports player, and also discussed the reasons behind the long hiatus in his career.
On discovering MLBB
I first played Mobile Legends: Bang Bang while serving in the military. That was in 2017. Before that, I was into first-person shooters, but since there were no computers in the military, I wanted to try something new. I remember when I first logged into MLBB, I had no idea what farming was or how to properly build characters. However, I liked the game itself. The more I learned about it and climbed the ranks, the more I wanted to become an esports player.
On becoming a pro player
During my service, I started playing with friends. We did pretty well in ranked matches and farmed stars. Then the developers announced the qualifiers for MPL MY/SG Season 1. Our team performed well there and advanced to the main stage of the tournament. That’s exactly how my professional career began.
On the long hiatus in my career
By early 2021, I had played all six seasons of the MPL MY/SG and participated in the M2 World Championship. At that point, I wanted to end my career and find a job in the real world. Of course, I continued to follow all the tournaments and even participated in some of them as a stand-in, but I didn’t officially return to the pro scene. It was only recently that I decided to fully dedicate myself to the game again and became a coach for Team Liquid PH.
In the latest episode of the 8G Podcast, hosts Denisse Valdesanch and Thea Franco talked about how they got used to working on the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and reflected on interviewing losing teams.
