DJY on matchmaking in MLBB: “Solo matches don’t show true skill, even with a high win rate.”

Malaysian streamer DJY highlighted the differences between games on the Malaysian and Philippine servers during the 8G podcast, and also reflected on solo matches in ranked mode and the role of an explainer.
On the difference between opponents in Malaysia and the Philippines
I’ve been living in the Philippines for the past three months and have already played through a ranked season. In my opinion, solo matches here are similar to those in Malaysia. However, when it comes to full-stack matches, it’s much harder to compete in the Philippines. Plus, there are more players here, so the chances of facing strong opponents in matches are higher. I think that even if you have excellent skills, you still won’t be able to decide the outcome of a match on your own on the Philippine server.
About Solo Matches
As you know, solo ranked matches aren’t your typical MLBB experience—everything depends on luck when it comes to team composition. Of course, you can carry the team, but if your opponents are really good, they’ll just keep killing your allies and prevent you from making a big impact. What I’m trying to say is that solo matches don’t reflect your true skill, even if you have a high win rate. Good players always play in trios or full squads.
On the role of the explainer
I believe that the “explainer” is the best role in solo matches if you know how to win your lane as Lapa, Pakito, or even Glu. It may seem like these heroes don’t deal much damage, but with a good build, no one will be able to kill you. In my opinion, it’s always better to play tanky heroes in solo queue. Right now, you can easily rack up a high win rate on the experience lane.
In the latest episode of the 8G Podcast, Justin “Coach Justine” Kanoi and Ken “Kzen” Pyle discussed the qualities that help esports players succeed and shared their thoughts on Pongpanata “Hiwko” Ruengarirat’s move to the role of assistant coach at King of Gamers Club.
