Aurora Gaming coach Ashley “ash” Betty, in an interview during the Thunderpick World Championship 2026 broadcast, spoke about the team’s morale, explained their 1-13 loss to 9z Team on Nuke, and complained about a lack of practice due to their busy schedule.
I think physically we’re feeling much better: fewer illnesses. Last time, things were pretty bad. And after yesterday’s win, I think we’ve gained more confidence. ...> It’s also good that we’re playing late today, since we’ve had a lot of Counter-Strike matches and flights lately. When you have to get up at 7:30 a.m. to travel to a match, I think it really takes a toll on your body at times.
We just played poorly. I don’t know what else to say. I think before that match, we had something like seven wins and one loss on Nuke. We’ve played against many of the world’s best teams on this map and practically destroyed them. So if you lose 1-13, that kind of score is only possible if you played horribly, and we knew we played very, very poorly. Nothing was going right for us. Something like that simply can’t happen again. That’s why we’re not playing Nuke today. It doesn’t always make sense to go back to the same map.
Overall, we’re still feeling okay. We saw a lot of mistakes, and I think one of our main problems right now is that we’re a very new team, but at the same time we’re advancing far in many tournaments and playing in just about every tournament. We don’t really practice—we just review our games. When we played Inferno the other day, it was the first time in many, many weeks, and we’ve forgotten a lot of the basics. It’s the same with Nuke: we haven’t played it much because everything was going our way anyway. So our opponent might have caught us off guard a bit with the ban. We were really out of our element, but today we should look a lot better. ...> Everyone here goes through this; unfortunately, it’s part of the schedule. I wish it were different, but it is what it is.
Aurora Gaming defeated 9z Team 2-0 and advanced to the Thunderpick World Championship 2026 playoffs, where they faced FURIA in the semifinals. Earlier, Ali “Wicadia” Haydar Yalçın cited communication as the team’s strength.
