BIG rifler Johannes “tabseN” Vodartz shared his thoughts on the victory over Aurora Gaming and discussed Cache’s return to the competitive Counter-Strike 2 map pool in an interview at the Esports World Cup 2026.
It was a tense match. We felt very comfortable on Cache. We really like Cache, and leading up to this tournament, we’d already had some very good experiences playing on it, including during the Esports World Cup 2026 qualifiers. That’s why we feel very confident on Cache. We also played against Aurora Gaming in practice, and they actually beat us there. But, as I said, when we got to the veto phase and kept Cache, and they kept Cache too, I thought, “Oh, okay.” So it was definitely a map that suited both teams. We’re here to compete, and fortunately, things worked out in our favor.
At the very beginning, everything was very simple—there weren’t a lot of strategies. People had to try to find their own identity. Everyone, of course, was trying to remember how they used to play on it back then. But recently, I think things have started to go back to the old style. People are taking control of the mid lane and using instant smokes here and there. Things get a little stranger with the instant smokes because that didn’t happen before. But now, I think I really have a lot of memories of how to approach the game or the map itself. If your opponents take control of the mid lane, you push along the sides to gain more control. Then you have opportunities for duels and map control. <...> Right now, to be honest, it feels just like back in the day. And I really love this map. I love this map. You have so many opportunities to make interesting plays, play your position well, and gather information. And overall, this map is really fun to play on.
Earlier, BIG lost to G2 Esports 1-2 in Group A at the 2026 Esports World Cup for Counter-Strike 2. Tomorrow, Johannes “tabseN” Vodarec’s team will face Team Spirit for the right to remain in the tournament.
