FaZe Clan captain Russell “Twistzz” van Dalken, in an interview at the 2026 CS2 Esports World Cup, shared his thoughts after the loss to Team Vitality, analyzed some of the mistakes made in that match, and commented on his teammates’ performance.
It’s worth acknowledging that Team Vitality is capable of winning rounds that clearly aren’t going their way. That’s why I’m glad we managed to win a few rounds like that as well. We staged a good comeback on Dust2 while defending, and then started the half on the attack with confidence. However, unfortunately, our preparation let us down to some extent. Either certain aspects of our opponent’s gameplay had changed, or we ourselves overlooked certain details—and the blame for that lies entirely with me and the coach. It’s pretty hard to face that reality right now. As for Nuke, it’s easy to say in hindsight that choosing it was a trap for us. On the other hand, if we had chosen a different map and lost on it, we would have doubted the correctness of our decision just as much. So I don’t regret what we did. We just completely botched our game plan. Our preparation for Nuke was solid, but in the end, we lost. Perhaps the team lost its focus a bit: there were a lot of grenade misses and simple mistakes, like players forgetting the tactics for specific rounds that we’d gone over in detail during practice. It’s very hard to lose that way, but we have no regrets.
To be honest, I think it all comes down to nerves. I don’t think we practiced our strategies poorly or didn’t spend enough time on them. We definitely went over every detail thoroughly and did everything necessary. Yes, in my opinion, it simply comes down to nerves, which is to be expected from esports players who lack sufficient experience. Nevertheless, I’m proud of Neityu: he played an excellent game on Dust2 and stood out with many standout moments. The same can be said about jcobbb and JBOEN. So we just got a little “carried away.” Maybe the guys were expecting an easy win on Nuke, but there are never any easy matches against Team Vitality on any map. I think even if we’d picked a random map from the map pool, the game would still have been extremely tough.
Earlier, FaZe Clan lost to Team Vitality in their first playoff match at the 2026 Esports World Cup for Counter-Strike 2, falling 0–2 in a best-of-3 series. Russell “Twistzz” van Dalken’s team finished the tournament in 9th–16th place.
