OG co-founder Sebastian “Ceb” Debs released a YouTube video in which he analyzed Ivan “OneJey” Zivitsky’s play as Gyrocopter in the fourth position in detail.
The key moment for Gyrocopter is level three. Two points in Rocket Barrage deal absolutely insane damage. The ability is also very useful at level one, but at level three, the damage-to-mana ratio is simply off the charts. <…>
Enemies have to keep a constant eye on Gyrocopter’s location: if he finds the right angle, he’ll simply kill them.
With the Shard, the hero goes wild. In fact, everything hinges on the Shard. It’s also great at countering the Blink Dagger. <…> Another crucial point is level 10 and the talent that increases Homing Missile damage by 25%. This is very significant.
Ideally, you want fully leveled Rocket Barrage and Homing Missile, level 10, and the Shard. That’s the Gyrocopter’s dream setup. If you get all of this by the 15-minute mark, you’ve practically reached your peak. From there, the goal is to survive in fights and deal more damage, depending on what’s needed.
If you spot an enemy hero and fire a Homing Missile at them, it also acts as a defensive tool. It will stun them after a few seconds, so you can either back off or decide to chase them down.
If you’re close by and cast Rocket Barrage, the enemy has to run away. And if they run away, they take much more damage from Homing Missile: until the missile hits its target, it keeps firing Rocket Barrage at them. In a sense, this is infinite damage as long as the enemy keeps dodging it.
If enemies have to run, you’re very happy. That’s exactly why you want to be on high ground. Essentially, you want to spot them before they spot you.
Your ultimate also has a very long range, so you can use it without putting yourself in harm’s way. You should only move in close to fire your own Rocket Barrage when you realize the fight is already won and you can safely close the distance.
Or if that move will win the fight and you’re willing to die for it. Because, in my opinion, it’s much more important to get off a few Homing Missiles than to just charge in and die.
The Flak Cannon matters, too. I think it’s worth maxing out. Some Gyrocopter players opt for stats instead. In my opinion, it’s better to max out the Flak Cannon because that way you can actually clear jungle camps and lanes.
And, to be honest, items are important for this hero: at some point in the game, you’ll have to engage in a fight anyway. You need to be able to close the distance and deal damage. You can’t just be a bot that spams Homing Missile. That’s why buying items for survivability and being able to farm is, in my opinion, very important.
In general, this hero farms very quickly. Even without items, with a level-4 Flak Cannon, you can clear a wave of creeps on your own.
Ceb analyzed the first map of the OG vs. LEGION match in the DreamLeague Season 30 qualifiers. OneJey’s team won it with a kill score of 26–21 in 41 minutes, and the Belarusian support finished the game with a KDA of 5/6/17.
