Commentators Avery “SVG” Silverman and Austin “Cap” Walsh discussed Alan “Satanic” Gallamov’s transfer from Team Spirit to PARIVISION, as well as Dota 2 contracts, on the Not For Broadcast podcast.
Cap: There was a recent report that Satanic has now officially joined PARIVISION. Team Spirit announced this, so I assume the club successfully traded him. I think I heard that Spirit has pretty long-term contracts. When I first saw this news, I thought, “Does that mean his contract is up?” But most likely not.
SVG: They bought him out. Probably for some outrageous sum, too.
Cap: Yeah, I was wondering if you had any idea how much they paid for him.
SVG: Honestly, I don’t know.
Cap: Do you think any Dota player has ever been sold for a million dollars?
SVG: No.
Cap: Okay. It’s just that, of course, we’ve seen rumors, and over the years, figures ranging from $200,000 to $500,000 have been mentioned.
SVG: I’d say $200,000 is the maximum you should pay for a player. Maybe someone was offered $500,000, but that would have to be an incredibly lucrative contract.
For example, if Yatoro is stuck on some crappy contract where he’s still getting around $5,000 a month or something like that, — and I think that’s actually the case — then buying him out would be incredibly expensive if there are still a few years left on the contract.
Because imagine this: you could sign Yatoro for three or four years and pay him $5,000 a month. That alone would be worth a million dollars, because you’re saving so much on the salary of such a strong player, you know? I think in cases like that, that kind of sum might make sense.
But generally speaking—no. No one is going to pay that kind of money unless they’re suicidal. What are we even doing? Just invest it in Ethereum. You’ll have a better chance of achieving something over the next five years. And then you can buy players later.
Earlier, SVG and Cap spoke out about the dominance of Eastern European teams. Silverman stated that he was “tired of grand finals between two Russian teams,” while Walsh noted that he would never bash Team Spirit and also expressed interest in Team Yandex due to their signing with ATF.
