Team Spirit mid-laner Denis “Larl” Sigitov spoke in an interview after the BLAST SLAM VIII Grand Final about Team Yandex’s superiority, discussed the challenges of drafting without Ilya “Illidan” Pivtsaev, and outlined his goals for upcoming tournaments.
There’s always something to learn; you just have to take a moment to think about it. It’s hard to grasp right after the game. We just need to get better. They played better and picked better. As a team, they were better—that’s all.
I hope we’ll have more structure in our picks and gameplay. We have a new player and a new coach. Even at this tournament, we played without our head coach—we had our assistant coach, MiLAN, with us. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons why it’s hard to consistently get good drafts.
We talk to our head coach after some series and five to ten minutes before a series. It’s tough: he has to pass a lot of information on to MiLAN, and during the games, some bans and other details get overlooked.
I think drafting with Illidan will be easier because there will be more structure. And it’ll be easier to draw conclusions after the game, too.
[Question: Usually, after a shaky start to the season, Team Spirit goes on to win TI. Could this be a good sign?]
I don’t think so, because we want to win every tournament we play in. It’s great to win all the time. Of course, winning TI is great. But then a new season starts, you play in the finals, you lose—and that sucks. That’s why we want to win every tournament we compete in.
Team Spirit lost to Team Yandex in the BLAST SLAM VIII grand final with a score of 1–3. The next tournament for the “Dragons” is PARI UNIVERSE by FISSURE, which will take place online from October 22 to November 1.
