Maelstorm commented on the cancellation of the Dota Pro Circuit tournament system

Commentator Vladimir “Maelstorm” Kuzminov reflected on the negative consequences of canceling the Dota Pro Circuit tournament system on his personal Telegram channel.

The quote is reproduced with the source’s spelling and punctuation intact

[So the pros themselves were whining that the DPC takes up too much time] Pros are always whining. Not all of them, but the vast majority. They’re always unhappy with everything. It’s literally always been that way, for as long as I can remember. Too many tournaments, too many qualifiers, too little prize money. Too many games, not enough games.

I’ll tell you more. It wasn’t just the pros—many of my colleagues also “breathed a sigh of relief.” Yay, the developer isn’t running its own league anymore. THAT’S SO COOL. No more hassle with matches—otherwise we’d have to play as many as 2–3 official matches a week. No more Majors; instead, there’ll be a bunch of other cool tournaments.

But no one stopped to think that DPC matches and Majors were far more significant events—they were, after all, major focal points of attention.

We needed the DPC to be revamped and improved, but we, like idiots, were happy to see it canceled.

Earlier, Vladimir “Maelstorm” Kuzminov reflected on Dota 2 esports: “If everything stays the way it is, then we’ll just have to make do—we’re used to it. From Int to Int—thank you for not canceling it. And in fact, Int is still the number one tournament. Why? Because it’s a tournament organized by the developer.”
