Professional player Romel Augusto “Mjz” Quinteros Rojas shared tips on his personal YouTube channel on how to farm more effectively in the first position in Dota 2.
How can you farm more and more effectively? For example, you should always keep an eye on the lanes where enemy creeps are approaching and assess whether you can take them down. If farming that wave is too dangerous, don’t take the risk—it’s better to wait until you have more information.
But you need to keep this in mind at all times, because your main task is to farm the jungle efficiently until a wave of creeps reaches the lane. Then you farm that wave, push the lane, and return to the jungle. After that, you repeat the same cycle over and over until a team fight starts or you decide to switch lanes or do something similar.
The idea is to avoid situations where you’re next to a jungler who also wants to farm. You need to find a way for both of you to farm. At the same time, one of you must also push the lane so that both of you have space to farm. Because we can’t just all go into the jungle together and call it a day.
The only time you should stay together—for example, two or three supports—is when you want to take objectives or kill a hero. That’s when you need to team up. But if you want to use the map effectively, you need to find ways to farm as much as possible.
You farm to get items. When you buy an item, you need to do something with it: this will help you get a few kills, take down towers, and earn extra gold. And then you need to go back to farming. And so on until the next item, after which the whole process repeats. That’s why you need to constantly keep this in mind. The thing is, after buying an item, in most cases you need to take action.
Earlier, OG co-founder Sebastian “Ceb” Debs analyzed Ivan “OneJey” Zhivitsky’s playstyle as Gyrocopter in the fourth position, discussing the hero’s key abilities, talent builds, the use of Aghanim’s Shard, and item choices for farming and survivability.
