Peter “ppd” Dager commented on the news of Evil Geniuses’ withdrawal from esports. The former esports player shared his take on how to solve the club’s problems on his personal X account.
You know... Esports is a crazy industry. It was fun while it lasted.
Looking back, if I were in their shoes, I’d drop all teams except Dota 2. I’d move to Europe and find a sponsor from the gambling industry. Maybe I’d branch out into Counter-Strike 2 and ride that wave for as long as possible.
That said, selling to a private investment fund was probably still the best option.
GG.
In addition to ppd, analyst Ben “Noxville” Stijnuisen also shared his thoughts on the situation with Evil Geniuses, posting on X.
It’s really sad to hear news like this about EG... :(
Dota 2 fans will surely recall the highlights in this organization’s history—for example, their brilliant performance at TI5, which ended in victory, or that epic game against EHOME at TI6 (one of the best matches in history).
I still remember watching their CS 1.6 demos back in 2005!
The esports organization Evil Geniuses had previously announced its dissolution—the club’s CEO cited growing competition and a lack of sponsors as the reasons for this decision.
