The esports organization Evil Geniuses has ceased operations and will no longer compete professionally in any discipline. A post announcing this appeared on the club’s social media accounts.
As CEO Chris De Apollonio admitted, no matter how hard the staff tried to stabilize operations within the organization, the challenges facing the esports industry—namely, growing competition and sponsorship restrictions—led EG to shut down.
In addition, the organization’s CEO announced that all of the club’s players are now free agents. De Apollonio also stated that his goal is to help as many Evil Geniuses employees as possible find new opportunities—according to him, he can vouch for each and every one of them.
Earlier, on October 20, the Indian organization Global Esports also exited esports—under the new name GE Studios, the company will focus on projects in the gaming industry utilizing AI.
