In 2026, 19 teams will compete at the World Championship. Most spots are allocated among the regional leagues, while the remaining two spots depend on the results of the Mid-Season Invitational. After qualifying, teams go through several stages of the tournament: the play-ins, the Swiss system, and the playoffs, at the end of which the world champion is determined.

The 2026 Esports World Cup takes place from July 15 to 19 and brings together the 16 strongest teams in the world. The tournament is part of the Esports World Cup festival but is held separately from Riot Games’ official competitive season. Teams qualify through regional qualifiers and based on their performance in their respective leagues.

The competition’s prize pool is $2 million. In addition to the cash prizes, teams earn points toward the Esports World Cup club standings, which combine the results of organizations across all disciplines of the festival.

Worlds is the season’s flagship tournament and the most prestigious League of Legends competition. In 2026, the tournament will take place from October 15 to November 14 in the United States. Matches will be held in Los Angeles, Allen, Texas, and New York City.
