Hroftatyr is one of the Five Sinners of Kaenri’ah, known by the title “The Sage.” The Genshin Impact 7.1 storyline revealed his past and his friendship with the young Pierrot. Here’s a look at who this mage was, what he looks like, and whether we can expect him to appear in gacha banners.
Before the fall of Kaenri’ah, Hroftatyr headed the Academy of Spells and served as the chief court mage and advisor to King Irmin. Despite his youth, he was considered an outstanding scholar and was among the Four Pillars—the most influential figures in the kingdom.

Later, Hroftatyr became one of the Five Sinners. According to Dainsleif, they gained immense power but did not use it to save their homeland during the catastrophe. It is precisely this that Dainsleif considers their betrayal.

The story of his appearance can be divided into three stages:
Additionally, by completing “The Onslaught” on higher difficulty levels, you can obtain a two-handed sword skin—one that once belonged to the Sage.
In cutscenes, he appears alongside Eftirvit—the young Pierrot. Both are associated with the Academy of Spells. The flashbacks reveal Hroftatyr’s research: he attempted to prolong the life of his dying mentor using the power of the Crimson Moon. However, the result caused endless suffering, which is why the scientist called it the Curse of Immortality.
Hroftatür is educated, talented, and skilled at winning the ruler’s favor. At court, he displayed obedience to Irmin, but Rændottir called him a cunning fox. This suggests that behind the facade of an obedient advisor lay his own hidden agenda.
At the same time, his memoirs reveal his devotion to his teacher. His attempt to find a way to prolong her life began with a desire to save someone close to him. In this episode, Hroftatür comes across as a passionate researcher who faced the grave consequences of his work.
This led to a falling-out between him and the future Leader of Fatui. In those years, Eftirvit did not understand that the Curse of Immortality would bring only suffering, and it was only after he himself gained immortality during the Kaenri’ah catastrophe that he realized his friend had been right.

Hroftatyr is a young man with long light-purple hair. His clothing is adorned with numerous decorative details, and a blue cloth drapes from his shoulder to his waist. Around his neck is an ornament made of diamond-shaped elements.
The Sage is also associated with a figure shaped like an Adam’s apple: this is precisely how the figure representing him is depicted on the symbolic game board.
At this time, Hroftatyr is a non-playable story character. He cannot be obtained through prayers or added to a party. There has been no announcement regarding a playable Hroftatyr, nor are there any release dates or confirmed stats.
However, the developers have not confirmed that he will never become a playable character. Since some Genshin Impact characters can die, be resurrected, and become playable after committing misdeeds, it’s possible that one of the Sinners could follow a similar path. However, the likelihood of this is very low.
