How to Get Heroes in MLBB

Unlike some other MOBAs, only a portion of the characters are initially available to players in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. The remaining heroes can be obtained during gameplay—by purchasing them with in-game currency, claiming them through events, or unlocking them by completing missions.

There are several ways to get the MLBB hero you want:

Below, we’ll break down each way to expand your collection in detail, explain how to get Mobile Legends: Bang Bang heroes for free, and offer tips for new players on how to save up for your favorite heroes without wasting resources.

Mobile Legends features over 130 playable characters, but only some of them are immediately available to new players. The remaining heroes can be unlocked by completing initial activities, participating in events, or purchasing them with Diamonds and Battle Points.

At the start of Mobile Legends, you’re offered a choice of three heroes to learn from: Leila, Aurora, or Darius. As you complete the initial quests, you’ll also unlock other heroes for free.

The easiest way to get a hero permanently is to buy them with one of the available currencies. You can purchase your favorite character on their page or in the Store using one of three resources:

This means that Mobile Legends players don’t have to spend real money to unlock new heroes. Battle Points can be earned by playing matches and completing various tasks, while Tickets are awarded for reaching certain ranks and participating in other activities.

The in-game store also regularly offers discounts on heroes. During certain periods, the price may drop to 299 tickets, 299 diamonds, or 6,599 Battle Points.

That said, we recommend not spending your currency right away. Before making a purchase, it’s best to test the hero’s skills and gameplay, and, if possible, play a few matches with them against real players. It takes time to accumulate free currency, so spending it on a hero you’ll quickly get bored with isn’t always a wise move.

MLBB has a special store where hero fragments can be exchanged for permanent heroes. It’s located in the “Fragments” section—to purchase heroes, you’ll need to use the tab on the far right.

Players earn different types of fragments for participating in events and regular in-game activities. Hero fragments can be exchanged for characters from a special list. There are 20 heroes available in the shop at any given time, and each one costs 120 fragments.

In September 2026, this currency can be used to purchase Argus, Aulus, Baxia, Beleric, Guinevere, Darius, Julian, Yves, Yin, Kimmy, Xavier, Melissa, Obsidia, Odette, Pakito, Ruby, Hanzo, Helkart, Fovius, and Chu. The list of characters in the Fragment Store changes periodically.

Sometimes MLBB lets you earn heroes by participating in specific events. The terms of these events are constantly changing, but options include:

To build a large collection of heroes without spending money, it’s worth participating in in-game activities. Even if a specific event doesn’t let you get a character right away, you can earn battle points, fragments, and other resources for future purchases.

In addition, MLBB features special game modes where you can play as certain locked characters or gain access to a large number of heroes. For example, in Battle Mode, the game lets you choose one of two random characters. Certain arcade modes may also have special rules regarding hero access.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang features trial cards that let you try out heroes for free before purchasing them. After activating a card, the player gains temporary access to the corresponding hero for 72 hours—that is, three days.

You can obtain these trial cards from chests, by participating in events, giveaways, and other in-game activities. You can view available trial cards in the “Bag” section of the main menu. Players can receive several of these items right at the start of the game.

It’s important to understand that a trial card does not unlock a hero permanently. Once the trial period ends, access to the character is revoked unless it was obtained through another means. Nevertheless, this is a convenient way to expand your roster and determine whether a specific hero is a good fit for you.

You don’t have to use a trial card right after receiving it. You can store it in your “Bag” and activate it whenever you want to play a series of matches with that specific character. If you like the hero, you can unlock them permanently once the card’s validity period ends.

There are over 100 playable heroes in Mobile Legends, but you shouldn’t try to get them all at once. At the start of the game, you’ll be given enough free heroes to choose 2–3 favorites and learn the game’s basic mechanics.

After that, we recommend saving up resources and currency. In the first few hours, MLBB gives out enough rewards that you don’t need to worry about buying new heroes. Instead of spending Battle Points and Fragments on the first characters you come across, use the temporarily available heroes and trial cards.

Once you’ve decided on your favorite role and a few heroes, you can unlock new characters that suit your playstyle. Even if you have enough currency to buy 4–5 heroes at once, it’s better to buy 1–2 at a time—that way, you can get to know them better and figure out which characters are really worth adding to your collection.

We also recommend keeping a reserve of 32,000 battle points. It’ll come in handy if a new hero is released or an obviously strong character appears in your role that you’ll want to try out right away.
