A tournament of high hopes and heavy losses.

1 VRS point = $1,131.

$21,490—that’s exactly how much it cost us to attend the tournament in Belgrade. As a reward for our expenses, we received 1 win, 2 losses, and +19 VRS points. And, of course, a new experience!

The main expense was the round-trip flight, which cost $9,510. There’s nothing we can do about that—as long as we live in our home region, this expense will account for the lion’s share of our costs.

Since we arrived a couple of days before the tournament, we held a boot camp from September 22 through 24, which cost $1,800.

The hotel where we stayed during the tournament, from September 24 to 29, cost us $4,180. The tournament organizers also provided us with a practice room for those days completely free of charge—something that’s usually only done at Tier-1 events. Thank you to them for that!

And we spent about $6,000 over those 7 days on all sorts of expenses: taxis, food delivery, and group meals out from the hotel. We could have gotten by on less here, but given the cost of such an expensive flight, it doesn’t seem like an unnecessary expense. (All figures are based on a group of 8 people on the trip)

This is a heavy burden for a team that’s striving to reach a stable Tier 2 status and compete in Tier 1 events, where all expenses—except for personal expenses—are covered for you. An organization that is developing three young prospects—largely funded by my personal resources—without a title sponsor, and that believes in its own success!

We have plenty of ideas for 2027—just a few more steps to take that will lead us to a stable top-20 ranking!
