Mauisnake: “For me, sycrone is the top favorite to win Coach of the Year.”

Analysts Alex “Mauisnake” Ellenberg and Duncan “Thorin” Shields discussed Dennis “sycrone” Nielsen’s coaching at MOUZ on the Snake & Banter podcast and assessed his success with rosters made up of young players.

Mauisnake: For me, sycrone is the top contender for Coach of the Year. In 2025, MOUZ was considered the second-best team in the world behind Vitality and even won PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 with a rookie captain. No one even imagined that Brollan would ever transition from the role of star player to that of in-game leader. Nevertheless, he helped the team reach the top 4 in major tournaments more than ten times in a single year and defeat Vitality at IEM Cologne 2025. Now look at what sycrone is doing with xertioN. MOUZ won its debut championship with the new roster and, just recently, took 2nd place at the BLAST Open Porto 2026. Take a look at the team’s players—sycrone is working with absolute rookies xelex and PR, who rarely faced top-tier opponents during their time at GamerLegion. This coach has not only managed to adapt them to the Tier 1 scene but has also built a solid structure. Perhaps XTQZZZ and hally will have more trophies by the end of the year, but the difference between the teams’ rosters is enormous. I’d also like to note that MOUZ players always give sycrone his due and talk about how much he does in terms of developing game plans, helping xertioN, and integrating xelex and PR... If you listen to the team’s communication, the coach says all the right things and is, in essence, a true master at managing people’s emotions and getting the most out of them in stressful situations. Of course, it’s hard to call MOUZ’s resources limited, but that doesn’t diminish sycrone’s contribution to the team’s success.

Thorin: sycrone works great with young talent. xelex is still just a kid—he’s 17. I checked—Jimpphat joined MOUZ at the same age, and xertioN was only a year older. It turns out that sycrone takes on young players, instantly integrates them into his system, and delivers Tier 1-level results. He’s also proven that he can breathe new life into careers. Last year, I was very skeptical of torzsi—he’d never had impressive stats. However, in 2026, he’s racking up an absolutely incredible rating. Now torzsi looks more confident than ever. He just moves around the map and racks up a ton of kills. Whatever sycrone is doing, he has real talent. MOUZ is really good right now.

MOUZ recently lost to FURIA in the quarterfinals of the lower bracket at StarLadder StarSeries Fall 2026 with a 1–2 map score. The “Mice” finished the tournament in 5th–6th place, earning $20,000 in prize money. sycrone’s next event will be ESL Pro League Season 24.
