Data miner Avi “Thour” Thour reported on his personal page on social media platform X about changes to Valve’s network tools for Counter-Strike 2.
The expert officially announced the disabling of certain technical features and questioned the reasons behind the developers’ decision:
Valve has disabled the API that allowed some websites to track the number of players in CS2 in real time. What are the developers planning?
Despite the insider’s statement regarding changes to the application programming interface, the display of the shooter’s current online player count on the SteamDB portal continues to function normally.
Earlier, data miner Avi “Thour” Thour also reported a decline in Counter-Strike 2’s player base in 2026. According to the expert, the average monthly growth in the number of players was 9%, while the net outflow was recorded at 23.5%.
