Valve has released the “City That Never Sleeps” update for Deadlock, which significantly revamps the look of New York City, replaces the familiar neutral creatures, and adds new objects to the map.
The map has received a major visual overhaul. Major routes run through the city’s landmarks, with four districts situated between them: Theater District, Chinatown, The Cursed Quarter, and The Plaza. Alleys and passageways between streets offer additional routes for movement and combat.
The blue line features the Uptown District, Times Square, and the Outskirts. The developers describe the Elite District as a quick route to battle zones, Times Square as the heart of the city, and the Outskirts as a bustling area where a strange rumbling from the subway can be heard.
Here you can encounter a new neutral enemy—the Specimen. It’s a hand that crawls around separately from its body.

The Green Line includes Umbria University, Central Park, and the Brownstones. The university specializes in the occult sciences, and the park is home to the 300-year-old Hangman’s Elm.
Among the new neutrals on this line are “Debts of the Past”—books that have come to life.

The York line features the Stock Exchange, Seaport Dock, and Old Fairfax Factories. These locations reveal the financial, maritime, and industrial sides of mystical New York.
New neutral creatures are introduced here: the Sewer Ghoul and the Mimic Barrel. The developers describe the former as the embodiment of dark thoughts that humanity would prefer to rid itself of.

One of the four districts between the main lines is the Theater. It is now inhabited by the Puppet Masters.
Like the other new neutral entities, they replace the previous creatures and exhibit new behavior.

In Chinatown, you’ll encounter two new types of neutral creatures: Festival Spirits and Krapusta in a Pot. The bell tower is also located in this district, where you can earn an additional reward in souls.

Slum Mushrooms have appeared in the Cursed Quarter. According to the developers, these creatures were created by the combination of mushrooms, demonic energy, and high temperatures. You shouldn’t eat them.

Another area between the main streets is the Plaza. This is home to the Sly Ones, whose grasping hands are always reaching for other people’s pockets.
Beneath the district’s main square lies a separate area with increased risk and more valuable rewards.

Sunken Plaza is located beneath Plaza’s main square. As you descend, the sounds of the outside world fade, and your stamina depletes. The developers invite players to take a risk for a more valuable reward, keeping in mind the limitations of this area.

At the top of the Bell Tower in Chinatown, you can collect a large number of souls. While collecting, the bell rings loudly across the entire map, alerting other players to what’s happening.

Tough Crates have appeared on the map—these sturdy crates require a heavy blow to destroy. They yield more souls than regular crates.
Golden statues—Buff Containers—have been reworked. In addition to their previous bonuses, they now grant a permanent increase to the following stats:
Healing snacks are hidden throughout the map. They allow you to quickly restore your health.
Steam Vents have been added—sources of steam that you can use together with your allies.
Standing inside a steam vent grants invisibility and a small health boost. These spots let you hide from enemies while moving through the streets.
The Dealer has appeared in New York—a merchant from whom you can trade high-level items for their warped versions. These items have enhanced stats but also impose penalties.
The first shipment appears around the 30-minute mark of the match. Additional distorted items become available on average every 15 minutes after that.
The negative effects are randomly selected for each match. The values of the bonuses and penalties may vary slightly from game to game, but they are the same for all players within a single match.
The Merchant will remain in town for only a few days and will disappear when the first new hero is released.

The Deadlock update also announced six new heroes, who will be released two at a time each week, and revamped the HUD, voice acting, labels, visual effects, and user settings.
