Astralis captain Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen, in an interview at the 2026 CS2 Esports World Cup, shared his thoughts after the team’s elimination from the event, analyzed the mistakes made in their match against G2 Esports, and spoke about the roster’s plans for the near future.
Today, both sides of Astralis were on display in the match: good on the first map and bad on the second. The third map turned out to be quite chaotic. We gave up a lot of important rounds, and a team like G2 Esports will simply “devour” you if you give them too much leeway. I’m a little disappointed because it feels like the match “slipped” out of our hands. It was a repeat of our match against MOUZ from the last tournament: we had a great first map—at least we can be happy about that.
Overall, I was prepared for our opponents to play their default style. With that style, they first establish control over the map on the attack, and then push either toward my position or toward Site B. Even though we understood their plan, we still couldn’t come out on top, so we’ll definitely need to review the recording and identify the key mistakes. From my position on the “long lane,” it’s pretty hard to pick up on these things, since I don’t have a direct view of what’s happening in the center of the map or at the opposite point. When the enemy attacked my sector, I think I had good opportunities to influence the outcome of the match, but at crucial moments I simply couldn’t pull off the shots. That’s the beauty of the game: sometimes the outcome is determined by a multitude of tactical decisions, and sometimes it all comes down to a poor individual performance.
Obviously, we’ll be heading to any events that help us earn the necessary VRS points. Next on our list is a tournament in China. The final schedule will depend directly on the results we achieve along the way. I hope we’ll be able to perform better at all future championships. I don’t think we’ll have time for boot camps with such a packed schedule. We’ve already had one, and I think that’s enough for now. I feel like we’re on the right track; we just need to keep working hard.
