fcr on South America in Dota 2: “There are still new players in the region—fresh blood.”
PlayTime offlaner Gustavo “fcr” Batista Teixeira Ribeiro spoke in an interview at PGL Wallachia Season 9 about his transition from coach to player and shared his thoughts on the South American region.
On the transition from coach to player
It’s very hectic and strange. At first, I was a player, then I became an assistant coach at LGD Gaming, and after the team disbanded, I asked myself, “Where should I go?” PlayTime approached me with an offer to become a player again. And I thought, “Why not?” I love the game; I love playing it. It’s a new opportunity.
On whether his coaching experience helps him in the game
I think I have a better understanding of how a coach works and how players can work with him. Our coach now is Astini; I can ask him about things I didn’t ask about when I was a player, before I had coaching experience. And I can analyze replays better. Working as a coach helps you learn how to watch and understand them better.
On Elmisho
This is the first time I’ve played on a team with him. He’s a really cool and laid-back guy. He understands a lot about the game and works hard. Every time I see him, he’s either playing Dota 2 or looking for a match—he doesn’t do anything else.
On the South American region
I think the region has slipped again because of scandals, but there are still players there who have performed well and shown their potential. I think there are still new players in the region—some fresh blood—and it can still produce good results.
