Modes and Maps in Marvel Rivals: What’s Available and How to Unlock Them

Marvel Rivals features several game modes and dozens of maps, set in various corners of the Marvel Universe. Each mode offers its own objectives, and the maps differ not only in their design but also in their gameplay mechanics. In this guide, we’ll break down all the main modes and tell you which maps you’ll encounter in the game.
Modes in Marvel Rivals
Quick Match is the main mode for most players. The system randomly selects one of three match types: Domination, Convoy, or Convergence. Here, you can familiarize yourself with the maps, learn about the characters, and play without risking your rank. This is the best option for newcomers who’ve already played against bots.
Ranked mode unlocks once your account reaches Level 15. Players earn ranking points for victories and climb the ranks, but they can lose progress for defeats. Unlike Quick Play, on some maps teams switch sides after the first round, which makes matches more balanced.
Arcade modes offer a more dynamic gameplay experience. Throughout different seasons, permanent modes like Conquest and Doom Match are available, along with limited-time events featuring unique rules.
Practice is a standard feature in the game, where a team of players battles bots at a selected difficulty level. The match rules are identical to those in Quick Play, making this mode ideal for learning new heroes, abilities, and maps without pressure from other players.
Custom Game—lets you create your own lobby with flexible settings. You can choose a map and game mode, add bots, invite friends, or password-protect the room. This mode is often used for practice, friendly matches, and tournaments.
All Marvel Rivals Maps
Marvel Rivals receives regular seasonal updates, in which the developers add new maps and occasionally change the map pool in competitive mode. At the same time, maps removed from the ranked mode usually remain available in Quick Play and custom lobbies. This approach helps prevent players from getting bored with the same maps over and over.
Starting with Season 3, new seasons are released approximately every two months. Along with them, the game usually adds a new hero, maps, cosmetic items, events, and balance changes. There is no strict release schedule for new locations, but virtually every season brings at least one new map or arena for the limited-time mode.
Convergence mode supports six maps: Empire of Eternal Night, Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda, Klyntar, Tokyo 2099, K’un-Lun, and Lower Manhattan.
