Valery in Genshin Impact is a 4-star Electro character who wields a one-handed sword. He creates a shield, deals area-of-effect damage, and enhances the active character’s Electro attacks. His abilities revolve around building up Charge Potential—a resource used for a special charged attack. In this guide, we break down Valery’s abilities in Genshin Impact, as well as his ascension materials, builds, teams, and everything else known about him.
Valery will be released in Patch 7.2, which begins on November 4, 2026. It is currently unknown which half of the banner the character will be in.

Normal Attack: Up to three consecutive sword strikes.
When charging an attack, Valery consumes Stamina, leaps forward, and strikes the ground, dealing Physical damage to nearby enemies. If he has at least 40 Strike Potential accumulated, a special mortar shot is fired instead.
A diving attack deals damage to enemies in Valery’s path and in an area upon landing.
Strike Potential is Valery’s special resource that enhances his combat abilities. You can initially accumulate up to 100 units. A special charged attack requires a minimum of 40 units.
Valery gains Strike Potential in two ways: when he uses an elemental skill; and after unlocking the talent “Accompanied by Advance Barrage,” which grants him Shock Potential whenever the nearest active character lands Electro attacks during the elemental explosion.
After accumulating at least 40 units of Assault Potential, Valery replaces his normal charged attack with a special shot. He consumes all accumulated resources, deals area-of-effect Electro damage in front of him, and gains 15 levels of Offense and Suppression Commands.
This effect boosts the Electro damage of the nearest active character. The amount of the boost depends on Valery’s Attack. If “Stellar Superconductor” is active, the Electro damage is converted to the damage of that reaction. If not, it simply deals Electro damage.
The buff applies to normal and charged attacks, falling attacks, elemental skills, and elemental bursts. One level of the effect is consumed when triggered. If a single attack hits multiple enemies at the same time, the number of levels consumed corresponds to the number of targets hit.
Raising his shield, Valery charges forward and deals area-of-effect Electro damage. At the same time, he gains 40 units of Strike Potential and creates an Electro Accumulation Shield. The shield’s damage absorption is calculated based on Valery’s attack. Against Electro damage, the absorption efficiency is 250%.
Valery deals area-of-effect Electro damage to nearby enemies and fires a heavy Thunder Shard projectile upward. In midair, it splits into a barrage of projectiles. As they fall to the ground, they also deal area-of-effect Electro damage to nearby enemies.
While Thunder Shards are falling during an Elemental Explosion, the nearest active character’s successful Electro attacks grant Valeria 5 units of Impact Potential each. A maximum of 80 units can be accumulated per Elemental Burst activation in this manner.
This talent enhances the “Advance” and “Suppression” commands. The additional bonus depends on how much Strike Potential Valery spent on “Direct Mortar Fire: Close Range.”
For each unit of resource spent, the damage bonus increases:
The reward for 20-hour research expeditions in Snowland increases by 25%. This effect does not apply to expeditions in Nod-Krai.

After a special charged attack, Valery restores 6 energy units. For every 10 units of Attack Potential spent beyond the first 40, an additional 1.5 units of Energy are restored. A maximum of 15 units of Energy can be restored per Special Charged Attack. This effect triggers no more than once every 15 seconds. Additionally, after each entry into combat, the first use of an elemental skill grants Valery an extra 150% of the normal amount of Strike Potential.
After using the Elemental Skill, the Elemental Mastery of all nearby party members increases by 100 points. The buff lasts for 18 seconds. If Valery is protected by an Electro Charge Shield and has already accumulated maximum Burst Potential, any additional Burst Potential gained strengthens the shield. Each excess unit increases damage absorption by an amount equal to 8% of Valery’s Attack. Up to 20 units can be converted in this way.
The maximum reserve of Strike Potential is increased by 30 units. The efficiency of gaining this resource is increased by 30%.
Damage from special charged attacks and elemental explosions is increased by 100%. When these attacks hit an enemy, the critical chance for Electro damage dealt to that enemy is increased by 10% for 7 seconds. If this damage counts toward the “Stellar Superconductor” reaction, its critical damage is further increased by 40%.

Some of the materials needed to level up Valery will only become available with the release of the new map. However, you can farm the following in advance:

Valery is a support character, so his build should be based on your main DPS. As of Patch 7.2, there are only two Electro DPS characters in the Stellar Superconductor: Sayno and Mitya. The first is quite energy-hungry, so you’ll need to balance Valery’s energy regeneration to ensure your main DPS has enough for their ultimate every rotation.
Best Artifacts:
Statistics:
You need to reach around 150% or higher Energy Regeneration to ensure your damage dealer always has enough energy for their ultimate. You also need to reach over 2,500 Attack Power for a sturdy shield.
Best Weapons:
Since Valery buffs regular Electro characters as well, he can be included in any other team with an Electro damage dealer.
