Topping Up Google Play in Russia: How to Buy a Card and Add Credit
Since Google withdrew from Russia, it is no longer possible to top up your Google Play balance directly using a Russian bank card. However, users can still purchase Google Play gift cards and redeem them in their accounts. Once redeemed, the funds are added to your balance, which you can use to buy apps, games, subscriptions, and other digital content.
How to Top Up Google Play in Russia
First, you’ll need to change your region, since Google has restricted access for residents of Russia. We’ve already covered how to change your Google Play region in a separate article.
Once you’ve done that, the easiest way to top up your Google Play balance becomes available: buy a gift card or redemption code from a trusted seller. Once activated, the card’s value will be added to your account balance, and you can use the funds to purchase apps, games, subscriptions, and other digital content.
Be sure to check that the gift card is valid for your Google account’s region. Google Play codes have regional restrictions, so a card issued for another country may not activate.
Instructions:
- Purchase a Google Play gift card with the desired denomination.
- Open the Google Play app or go to the Google Play website.
- Tap the profile icon and select “Payments & Subscriptions” > “Redeem Code.”
- Enter the code from the gift card and confirm the redemption.
- Once the funds have been credited, use your Google Play balance to pay for purchases in the store.
Usually, if a code won’t activate, it may have already been used, been issued for a different region, or been entered incorrectly.
Cost of Top-Up Cards
Prices vary by region. Turkish accounts offer the best value—1,000 lira will cost approximately 2,500 rubles. Gift cards for the U.S. are just as cost-effective—you’ll get $1 for 85–90 rubles.
