Valorant Lineups: The Best Positions on Each Map and How to Use Them

Gleb Brekhov
VALORANT

Lineups in Valorant help you safely use your abilities from pre-selected spots on the map. They’re most commonly used by Viper, Sova, Killjoy, Brimstone, Kay/O, and other agents whose abilities can be cast from a long distance. In this guide, we’ll break down what lineups are, how to choose positions in Valorant, and where to find the best spots on each map.

What Are Lineups in Valorant

Lineups in Valorant are pre-set positions and aim points that allow you to use an ability so that it always hits the same spot on the map. The player takes up a specific position, aligns their crosshairs with a reference point, and fires their ability along a pre-calculated trajectory. Most often, lineups are used to gather intelligence, defend an established spike, or clear dangerous positions.

Lineups are typically practiced for Viper, Owl, Killjoy, Brimstone, Kai’O, and Fade, since their abilities follow predictable trajectories. For example, on Ascent, players often use Owl’s Scout Arrow to quickly scout Point A, while on Bind or Lotus, Viper’s post-plant lineups with Snake Bite are popular, as they prevent opponents from defusing the spike unhindered. We’ve already covered detailed play strategies for each map in a separate article.

Best Positions for Lineups on Valorant Maps

Each map has dozens of popular lineups, but most of them follow the same principle: a player takes up a safe position, memorizes a landmark, and uses their ability so that it lands at the desired spot. Most often, these setups are used for reconnaissance at the start of a round or to defend a planted spike after it’s been planted.

One of the most famous examples is Owl on Ascent. Players have already identified numerous spots from which to launch reconnaissance attacks. This type of line-up allows you to safely gather intelligence before a firefight begins and decide whether to continue the attack.

Viper’s post-plant lineups on Bind are just as popular. Fans regularly discover new vantage points for scouting when playing as this hero.

Fans of the game have put together a dedicated website featuring the most popular lineups for every hero and every map. It’s worth checking out their collection before a match, at least for your favorite characters. For example, they’ve already found nearly two thousand different spots for Viper.

How to Memorize Lineups and Use Them in Matches

Don’t try to memorize dozens of lineups at once. It’s better to start with one or two agents and memorize a few of the most useful combinations for the maps you encounter most often in ranked play. Over time, you’ll automatically remember the necessary reference points and use your abilities without much preparation.

Before using a lineup in a ranked match, practice it a few times in a casual game. This way, you’ll memorize the target spot, the crosshair position, and the ability’s trajectory. That said, don’t rely solely on pre-set moves—sometimes the situation calls for unconventional play, so good lineups should complement your map knowledge, not replace it.

Watch professional players and streamers who play your favorite hero more often when you’re not playing. After a while, you’ll memorize the spot and be able to use it almost with your eyes closed.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
