In Hearthstone, each hero represents a distinct class with its own unique hero power, card pool, and playstyle. Some classes rely on powerful minions, while others focus on spells, board control, or card combos. In this guide, we’ll cover all Hearthstone heroes and their characteristics and help you choose the class that’s right for you.

There are a total of 11 classes in Hearthstone, each with unique abilities:
A hero’s power alone rarely determines the outcome of a match, but it does reflect the class’s unique characteristics. For example, the Warrior focuses on defense, the Mage on direct damage, and the Paladin on constantly filling the board with minions. This makes each class unique and influences deck selection and playstyle.
There are over 110 heroes available in Battlegrounds mode. The exact number changes with new updates: Blizzard regularly adds new characters, temporarily removes old ones, and changes their abilities.
In standard Hearthstone mode, your hero determines your class, available cards, and the hero’s power. In Battlegrounds, things work differently: here, all players use neutral minions from the shared tavern, and the hero influences gameplay solely through their unique ability.
It is the hero’s power that determines the game’s strategy. Some heroes help you earn gold faster, others boost specific types of minions, and still others allow you to develop the Tavern more effectively or gain additional resources. Therefore, in Battlegrounds, hero selection plays a much more important role than in Classic mode.
Hearthstone features a variety of characters, usually taken from World of Warcraft or created specifically for the game. Each hero has about 60–70 skins.

At first glance, all Hearthstone heroes seem similar, but each class has its own unique characteristics. When you choose a hero, you gain that hero’s unique ability, access to class-specific cards, and a distinct playstyle.
Key differences between heroes:
Thanks to these differences, each class feels unique. If you like aggressive play, you can try the Hunter class with a face-damage deck, the Paladin with buffs, or the Murlocs from the Shaman or Paladin. All these decks are different, and so is the gameplay experience, but your goal will be achieved—you’ll quickly smash your opponent’s face. The same goes for any other archetype; the main thing is to pick something that’s fun for you to play.
If you’re just starting to play Hearthstone, it’s best to choose a class with simple mechanics and an easy-to-understand playstyle. This will help you grasp the rules faster and learn to make the right decisions during a match.
The following classes are most often recommended for beginners:
Once you’ve mastered the basics of the game, you can try more complex classes: Rogue, Priest, or Demon Hunter. They require a deeper understanding of the mechanics but allow you to implement a wider variety of strategies.
